1.50 Haydock – POINT LYNAS (1pt win – 11/1 Bet365, 9/1 generally) + CHINDIT (1pt win – 7/2 Bet365, 3/1 generally)

With my Weekend Watch suggestion Sir Busker a non-runner, I’m switching allegiance to pace angle POINT LYNAS, narrowly beaten in a hot handicap at York last time. Ed Bethell’s four-year-old is up in class and badly in at the weights, but we’ve seen on countless occasions how pace trumps everything else in small fields, especially at Haydock, and he could prove hard to pass. Horses who prepped in handicaps have a good record in this Group 3 contest in the past ten years, with four of the 16 qualifiers scoring for a profit of £25.75 to a £1 level stake at SP.

I want to save on our old friend CHINDIT, whose record below Group 1 level reads 11114311813 (7-11). He was only third when favourite at Newbury last time but was unsuited by the drop to 7f.

13:50 Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Superior Mile Stakes (Group 3)

4.00 Kempton – MOUNTAIN ROAD (1.5pt win – 5/1 Bet365, 4/1 generally)

MOUNTAIN ROAD, the 13-8 favourite, broke the course record when getting the better of 12-1 shot Hapy by a neck in the 2m Chelmsford City Racecourse Farleigh Hospice Handicap at about this time last year. It was almost five lengths back to third-placed Danni California and David Simcock’s gelding followed up over 1m6f at the same venue in November, despite taking a walk in the market to 5-2 second favouritism. He made an encouraging return to action at Haydock in May, doing best of those ridden patiently when fourth of seven in a steadily-tun 2m Class 2 handicap before failing to strike a meaningful blow in another slowly-run affair at Goodwood. Stall 1 was no help when the 33-1 shot beat only a few home in the Northumberland Plate and he’s worth a bet to further enhance his Polytrack record of 2211 (2-4). The first defeat came when 33-1 and the other – on his sole previous visit to today’s venue – by just a nose.

16:00 Try Unibet’s Improved Bet Builder Handicap (London Stayers’ Series Qualifier)

5.00 Thirsk – SILENT WORDS (1pt win – 9/2 generally)

SILENT WORDS was poorly drawn in stall 4 of 13 in the 6f World Pool British EBF Fillies’ Handicap at Glorious Goodwood, racing more towards the centre of the track on her first start beyond the minimum trip when all the action was near side. Kevin Ryan’s 20-1 chance did well to keep on into fourth place, two and a half lengths behind winner Executive Decision, and that race has already started to work out well – runner-up Sophia’s Starlight won the Great St Wilfrid Handicap shortly afterwards, third-placed Funny Story – best of those drawn low – was just touched off in Listed company at Pontefract when we joined in the gamble on her next time, fifth home Granary Queen was beaten by a nose when 9-2 at Brighton on her next run and the 11th-placed finisher, Minnetonka, was an 8-1 Racing League winner at Wolverhampton this week. Faster ground is unlikely to be an issue for Silent Words and she remains open to plenty of improvement now up in trip to 7f.

17:00 British EBF 40th Anniversary Fillies’ Handicap

5.05 Leopardstown – DARTAN (1pt win – 10/1 Bet365 & 888Sport, 9/1 generally)

DARTAN has had six runs in handicaps over 1m5f or further, scoring on four occasions, including a three-from-three haul on left-handed tracks. He also seems best this way round over jumps, landing two of his three runs left-handed in handicap hurdle company. All those wins came on good/yielding or faster turf or Polytrack and, though dropping back in trip to a bare 1m5f, he’s worth a small interest to complete his hat-trick after recent wins on the Flat (2m1f) and over hurdles (2m4f) at Bellewstown.

17:05 Irish Stallion Farms EBF “Petingo” Handicap (Premier Handicap)
