It’s jumps only on Sunday with Aintree hosting its Old Roan meeting, while there is also National Hunt action from Wincanton. Here are Andrew Mount’s best bets.

2.25 Aintree – FORTESCUE (1pt ew with the firm paying three places – 13/2 bet365, 6/1 Sky Bet,
Ladbrokes, Betfred) & TORN AND FRAYED (1pt win – 11/4 generally)
FORTESCUE has a good record in chases of 11 or fewer runners, recording form figures of 1211211323142722 (6-16) for a profit of £28.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Henry Daly has started the season well and while the ten-year-old would have preferred a soft surface, the track has been watered to maintain a ‘good, good to soft in places description and showers are forecast. He’s going to enjoy tackling veterans’ handicap chase company for the first time rather than taking on younger rivals, as he did on his latest start when down the field in the bet365 Gold Cup.
I also want to back Nigel Twiston-Davies’ TORN AND FRAYED. The stable has been on fire this month and they’ve only saddled seven runners in veterans’ handicap chase company in October before, recording form figures of 1127111 (5-7) for a profit of £25.75 to a £1 level stake at SP.

4.00 Wexford – MAKE THE PLAN (1pt win – 12/1 bet365, 11/1 888Sport, 10/1 generally)
I entered the following comment in my horse tracker about MAKE THE PLAN after his 33-1 fifth of 16 in a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse in January 2023…
“It was typically hard to come from off the pace on the hurdles course at Fairyhouse last Wednesday, though cynics might suggest that making ground wasn’t the idea on 33-1 shot MAKE THE PLAN, who caught the eye when a never-nearer fifth in the 2m Easter Festival Early Bird Maiden Hurdle. He ran a similar race when a 100-1 eighth of 27 in High Definition’s maiden hurdle at Leopardstown on Boxing Day and he’s going to be something to bet on when handicapping.”
…he finished down the field in another maiden hurdle the following month but was not given a handicap mark, so connections had to show their hand at Ballinrobe next time where he finished second of 15 in yet another maiden hurdle. He picked up an injury when well beaten at Killarney just 12 days later and now returns from a break of 532 days on this his handicap debut. This 80-102 contest won’t take a great deal of winning and he looks worth chancing to small stakes.

Andrew Mount’s Myth Busters – Stratford Massively Favours Front-Runners So Don’t Back Hold-Up Horses This Saturday
It’s Champions Day at Ascot this Saturday (October 19th) but I want to concentrate on one of the supporting meetings – Stratford’s jumps fixture. In the past, I have rather unkindly referred to this venue as a “dog track” and a “front-runners’ benefit” where you simply need to back the horse who is likely to…
