6.00 Wolverhampton – MUMCAT (1pt e/w – 16/1 bet365)
There looks to be plenty of early pace in this 6f classified contest not least from Ustath (stall 4 of 12) and May Remain (stall 6) who both put pace to the race at Southwell four days ago where they faded into sixth and eighth places respectively and served to set up the race for the closers. Bankrupt (stall 1) is another who tends to make the running and while of interest based on his recent course and distance second to Bomb Squad (winner again since, and the third went two places better next time) the prospect of an early pace war is the concern. Banana (stall 9) is also unlikely to be far away in the early exchanges and it’s hard to escape the conclusion that this modest contest will be set up for something ridden patienly. Global Effort (stall 2), Jesse Luc (stall 10) and Autumn Angel (stall 12) are others who have pressed the early pace in the recent past and while we can’t rule out a change of tactics for some of those, especially the ones drawn wide, I’m going to side with MUMCAT (stall 3) who is usually ridden patiently. Jacqueline Coward’s mare has finished well beaten on the straight track at Newcastle the last twice after racing keenly (last of 11 and 11th of 12) but started at odds of 33-1 on each occasion and was a well backed (7-2) course and distance scorer just three runs ago where she denied Midnight Flame (re-opposea today) by a nose. Her six course outings in fields of ten or more runners have produced form figures of 213341 (2-6) and it will be disappointing of she doesn’t make the frame. Midnight Flame could also go well again despite her 30-race maiden status.
