The winner and second challenged wide and the form has already been franked by the fourth, who won at Lingfield on Tuesday, the sixth, who would have won at Market Rasen had he jumped a hurdle, the seventh (finished a 16-1 third at Warwick next time), ninth (winner at Ludlow on Monday) and 12th (fourth at 50-1 at Kempton next time).

image-left-align track-bia14s-diary-v2Horses who make ground from off the pace in sprints at Redcar can usually be upgraded and I was taken by the debut effort of I’ll BE BRIEF when a 33-1 fifth of 12 last month. The Julie Camacho-trained filly (‘slowly into stride, held up’) was only beaten by a little over five lengths behind runners described as ‘prominent’, ‘prominent’, ‘tracked leaders’ and ‘led’. Cheap Jack, ninth at 300-1 under a hold-up ride and six lengths behind I’ll Be Brief, ran second at 150-1 at Newcastle next time and I’m hoping that I’ll Be Brief can take a similar step forward at the same venue when she contests division one of the 6f Ladbrokes Bet £5 Get £20 EBF Novice Stakes (3.45).

image-left-align track-bia14s-diary-v2JUST GLAMOROUS did too much too soon in a 5f Class 3 handicap at Wolverhampton last time, helping to set the race up for the finishers. He fared best of the prominent racers in fifth and it was good to see the sixth and seven, who also pressed the very strong pace, perform with credit at Newcastle the other day. He hasn’t had many opportunities on Polytrack and can be backed in the £Betyourway At Betway Handicap at Lingfield (2.35), his first run in Class 4 company since making all at York in July 2016.

image-left-align track-bia14s-diary-v2DONNACHIE’S GIRL needs a stiff track, her four wins coming at Hamilton (twice), Newcastle and Newmarket. Catterick didn’t play to her strengths when she was mid-division over 2m last time and she’ll be happier back at 1m4f on Tapeta in division one of the Betway Casino Handicap at Newcastle this afternoon (1.55). She was placed in a Class 3 handicap at Hamilton as recently as May of this year and drops back down to Class 6 level here.

image-left-align track-bia14s-diary-v2RVER BRAY was added to my GG-Alerts after last December’s runner-up effort at Taunton. He did well to finish within three-quarters of a length of the winner in a 2m3f novices’ hurdle that day, having raced towards the inside of the track where the ground was considerably deeper.
