Charlie Appleby hopes William Buick will be back in the saddle next week after undergoing a series of hospital tests. After riding the Appleby-trained Expressionist to victory at Ascot on Saturday, the Derby-winning jockey missed his intended mounts in France on Sunday after reportedly feeling unwell.

Japan bids to strengthen Aidan O’Brien’s grip on this year’s Investec Derby with victory in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante Stakes at York. O’Brien has already won four trials for the premier Classic in the last week – with new Epsom favourite Sir Dragonet’s dominant display in the Chester Vase followed by Circus Maximus in the Dee Stakes, Anthony Van Dyck in the Lingfield Derby Trial and Broome in the Derrinstown.

A daughter of star stallion Dubawi out of the top-class racemare Dar Re Mi, the four-year-old certainly upheld family honour last term – winning her first three starts, including a 10-length demolition job in the Galtres Stakes at this venue last August.
