12:25pm Exeter (5 Places) BIG CHIP AND PIN - 25/1
Nowhere near the front in two starts this season (1m 7f -2m), but is likely to enjoy the stamina test that today’s 2m 2f trip will give. Comes into the race some 10lbs lower than when finishing second at Chepstow (2m 3f, good to soft) back in the Spring of last year and capable of rediscovering that previous form. Five places at a good price makes this a worthwhile selection, for place backers.
3:45pm Newcastle (4 Places) CALONNE - 11/2
Solid start to career in the second half of 2019, under Ger Lyons, before struggling under Johnny Levins management, over the Summer, picking up the odd place, but usually failing to maintain that form. However, since switching to Geoffrey Harker’s yard, things have taken an upturn, with a run of 543, before taking the spoils over C&D seventeen days ago, beating race rival Budanova by half a length. Budanova gets an extra 1lb today, but Calonne still looks more than capable of going close again.
5:00pm Dundalk (4 Places) PORTERINTHEJUNGLE - 15/2
No win in fourteen starts and somewhat inconsistent, but did finish third over C&D last month, just 1.25 lengths adrift of the winner. Rise of 3lbs looks about right here, but if can finally find that all important consistency, he can go close in a relatively competitive contest.
