UNCLE HENRY (1:45pm Cheltenham)
Gordon Elliott’s runner had two wins and six places in twenty starts over in Ireland, before switching across to the UK this Autumn, placing third at Perth (2m, good to soft) in a handicap hurdle, just 2.25 lengths behind useful runner, Beeno last month. He returned to home shores and placed fourth at Fairyhouse (2m, good) a fortnight ago and looks capable of building upon that here.
Jordan Gainford claims a useful 3lbs here and knowing Gordon Elliott’s mindset, he isn’t bringing a runner over to make up the numbers. He does need to find a little more here, but looks a promising contender
LIGHT INFANTRY (3:58 Newton Abbot)
Made a strong start to his career, winning an eight runner contest at Yarmouth (6f, good), when cruising to a 6.5 length margin of victory, ahead of High Velocity.
David SImcock’s runner returns from a 39 day break and further improvement is expected in this contest, although it will be interesting to see how he handles softer conditions underfoot, as Jamie Spencer continues onboard. If ground doesn’t cause issue, then he’ll be in the hunt for a double.
MO’ASSESS (2:05pm Doncaster)
Started off well, with a second at Nottingham (1m, good) back in July, before stepping up to take the spoils a fortnight later at Kempton (1m, a/w) for a maiden victory in a Class 4 contest, beating Aramaic by a neck. Saeed Bin Suroor’s charge then struck for a double at the same C&D, sixteen days later, winning the Class 5 contest by 2.75 lengths, ahead of Emblem Empire.
He stepped up to Class 2 level, for his latest outing, last month at Newbury (1m 2f, good), when fifth of ten on handicap bow, in what was a solid performance and the drop down in class for this contest, should see him challenging for the victory.
MAKANAH (4:20pm Doncaster)
Six career wins overall, although the last of those was back in October of last year, at Musselburgh (5f, soft) Has looked strong over the last few starts, including a third last time out, again at [Musselburgh] (5f, soft), when returning to calmer waters in the Class 3 - Flying Scotsman Conditions Stakes just twelve days ago.
That run should see him nice and sharp for this contest, while Julie Camacho’s charge has won here before, over course and distance (good to firm), back in 2018. Strong claims here and potential to take the victory
