Race 1 (1:50pm) MUTAZAWWED
Finished a close fifth, just 1.25 lengths off the victor on debut at Newcastle at the turn of last month and followed up with a maiden at Lingfield fifteen days ago, in a small four runner field. Makes turf debut this afternoon and has plenty of scope for further improvement. Tough contest, but should be challenging as they head towards the judge.
Race 2 (2:25pm) SAFE VOYAGE
Although capable on many conditions, as displayed in a hat-trick of wins last year, this Jason Hart ride won’t want it any quicker ideally. A third in the Group 2 - Minstrel Stakes at Curragh back in July, has been the highlight of runs since those victories. Finished second on seasonal return in a listed race at Haydock on good to soft last time out. Could do with a little softness in the ground, but looks as sharp as ever. Should get close.
Race 3 (3:00pm) IRONCLAD
Winner on handicap debut at Newmarket a year ago, before performing well at a higher mark at Kempton on the all-weather last August. Has not ran since and returns to action for the first time since being gelded. Lightly raced and capable of improvement in this very open Class 2 race, has every chance here.
Race 4 (3:40pm) FRANKLY DARLING
A Frankel filly who has looked excellent in latest couple of runs, winning by 5 lengths at Newcastle at the beginning of last month, before stepping up to win the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot eighteen days ago, beating race rival, Ennistymon by 1.75 lengths. John Gosden has a great record in this race and looks to have a great opportunity to add to that this afternoon.
Race 5 (4:15pm) CLOAK OF SPIRITS
Probably flattered to deceive somewhat, when a surprise second in the 1000 Guineas a month ago and that was highlighted further, when fifth in the Coronation Stakes, although softer conditions probably didn’t suit.. Today’s Group 3 race looks a more realistic proposition and its difficult to completely ignore the Guineas run. Better opportunity today and should be in the hunt for places at very least.
Race 6 (4:55pm) KAMEKO
Won the Futurity at Newcastle last November and then returned last month to take the spoils in the 2000 Guineas, beating Wichita by a neck. Extension to 1m 4f for the first time is a concern, but if he can settle into the slower pace this trip brings, then has a chance of overcoming the favourite, English King.
