Race 1 (1:00pm) THE STEWARD

Useful runner who has four wins in forty-two starts, and has placed or better in around 45% of races over his career. After some quiet form and dropping a little in the weights, James Moffat’s runner picked up a victory, last time out at Musselburgh (1m 7f, soft), when half a length ahead of 40/1 shot, That’s Your Lottie at turn of the year, but looked to be holding on relatively comfortably. Rise of 3lbs looks about right and should based off that recent form, be in the mix once again for the spoils

Race 2 (1:35pm) BERAZ

Makes UK / Hurdle and yard debut here, with this former French flat runner, winning in a maiden contest over 1m 1f, back in August of last year. Dan Skelton tends to spot useful runners over the channel and this looks to be no exception, although the colt has only raced up to 1m 3f, so it will be interesting to see how he copes with the extra distance, along with the timber. Unexposed and worth the selection, with very little else standing out here.

Nine race maiden for Oliver Greenall, who has shown improved recent form, with a second of four at Newcastle (2m 7f, good to firm) in a handicap chase back in November and then following up with a second of six at Leicester (2m 6f, good to firm) in December. In form and in high regard for this contest, with a big chance of finally making the winners circle.

Race 4 (2:45pm) ROAD WARRIOR

Rebecca Menzies’ runner has been in strong form, picking up a fourth career win at Sedgefield (2m 3f, soft) on Boxing Day, when 4.5 lengths clear of Poldark Cross, before recording successive seconds over the same C&D in January, including as recently as eleven days ago, when 1.25 lengths adrift of Just Call Me Al. Peter Coleman continues onboard and claims a very useful 10lbs, with 8-yo in with a strong chance here.

Race 5 (3:20pm) ICONE D’AUBRELLE

Looks the obvious selection here in what looks to be a weak contest. Picked up a victory on only run, back in September, over in Bordeaux (2m , soft), beating six others in a juvenile hurdle contest. Spotted and picked up by Neil Mulholland, this gelding comes in with a lot of expectation on his shoulders and should deliver.

Race 6 (3:50pm) LORD ROCO

Consistent improver for James Ewart, picking up a second place in a novices hurdle at Ayr (2m 4f, soft) on his penultimate start at the turn of the year, before going one better and bagging a maiden victory at Newcastle (2m 4f, good to soft) in a maiden hurdle, beating Firth Of Forth by 4.5 lengths, twenty-three days ago. Extended 3m trip looks ideal, considering how strongly he finished that contest, but does not have the kindest of opening marks on handicap debut. Should be there or thereabouts come the closing stages.
