The second leg of European qualifiers feature both the Red and Blue half of Merseyside over the next day or so, with Liverpool hosting Hoffenheim and Everton travelling to the Balkans to face Croatian side, Hajduk Split. Below is a brief preview and tip for each game.
Liverpool v Hoffenheim (7:45pm Wednesday)
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side will look to finish the job against their German counterparts, having won 2-1 in Germany last week, in what had been a better display by the Reds.
Defensive issues once again were the order of the day however, with a late goal meaning Hoffenheim go to Anfield with a tough but realistic chance of going into the hat for Thursday’s group stage draw.
Both sides made changes for the weekend’s fixtures, with both picking up 1-0 victories, but are likely to revert back to the sides that played last week, barring one or two adjustments, especially for Hoffenheim, who need to start quickly and aggressively.
Expect another close match and a few goals, with a 2-1 Liverpool win at 15/2 looking a strong bet.
Hajduk Split v Everton (8:00pm Thursday)
Everton face a potentially hostile atmosphere in Croatia on Thursday evening, as Ronald Koeman’s side look to defend a 2-0 first leg advantage in the Stadion Poljud.
Koeman was quite disappointed after the first leg, that the Toffee’s didn’t score more to take the tie completely away from their opponents, but having dominated the game so much, a repeat on Thursday, should be enough to reach the Europa League group stage.
Expect a little rotation to the Everton side, especially after the flat out performance against Man City, but a draw looks likely here at least for the English side, with Hajduk Split hoping that a partisan atmosphere can help inspire, what would be a major surprise.
Draw bet at 13/5 looks a possibility here.
