GG NAP, Double and Outsider – Friday, 9th September

Trainer Alan King, who recently sent out Trueshan to land the Northumberland Plate.

Racing editor Rob Plumbridge has enjoyed a solid week of tipping and looks ahead to Friday’s cards, including the penultimate day of the St Leger Festival.

NAP: Trillium – 2.35 Doncaster (15/8 generally)

TRILLIUM has come on leaps and bounds since a very green run at Goodwood on debut where Richard Hannon was stunned she didn’t win. She has more than made up for it since and went in at Glorious Goodwood in a hot race. She is a filly going places!

This race is the battle we have been eyeing up between her and The Platinum Queen since both these horses won at Goodwood. The Platinum Queen has since finished 2nd in a messy Nunthorpe since then, an admirable run and is rightly favourite.

However, there’s some rain in the air at Doncaster and I think it’s Hannon’s filly who will be better suited by some give in the ground. The way she ran at Goodwood looked like she had a bit of stamina at the trip and I think she edges the Fahey filly.

Today’s Racecards

Animate – 3.30 Sandown

Trueshan – 3.10 Doncaster

Animate looks like a real progressive tight who can land this tight little four runner contest. His win at Newcastle last time has already been franked by the runner up who won cosily next time and looks a pretty decent sort.

Simon and Ed Crisford are enjoying an Indian summer right now, they’ve been firing in the winners and seem to be unleashing their good horses in the back end of the season. Animate can go down as another winner for the in form yard.

Les Dove Memorial Nursery Handicap

There’s not too much for me to say here, other than I’d be extremely shocked to see TRUESHAN beat here. He is by far and away the best of these and the rain coming at Doncaster will only further his cause.

He’s an outstanding stayer in any conditions with a bit of give in the ground and should win this comfortably on his way to winning the QIPCO Long Distance Cup once again at Ascot.

Coral Doncaster Cup Stakes (Group 2) (British Champions Series)

Lord Of The Lodge – 3.45 Doncaster

There has to come a point where LORD OF THE LODGE becomes very well handicapped. More importantly he needs to start getting back to form as he’s run some pretty uninspiring races for a while now.

However, off a mark of 97 he must be getting there and if Karl Burke can rejuvenate him he has shown the class to win better events than this. He’s been good enough to be entered in plenty of Group races over the years, including a few Group 2’s where he has clearly not been at that level.

In these calmer waters he can make himself felt if there is any of the old spark left. He’s 40/1 for a reason but is certainly no forlorn hope here.
