GG NAP, Double and Outsider – Thursday 15th September

The weekend approaches and Editor Rob Plumbridge has selected his picks for Thursday.

NAP: Another Romance – 4.02 Pontefract (7/4 Generally)

The bang-in-form training duo of Simon and Ed Crisford send out the promising ANOTHER ROMANCE after he took full advantage of his mark last time, romping home by three and a half lengths.

That was a really pleasing performance after a few place efforts, and he can get the job done once again. His main rival Al Simmo was second that day, and re-opposes on better terms. However, Another Romance is just a three-year-old and has his best days ahead. He’s still got some progression to come and can account for that rival once more.

The slightly softer conditions won’t be an issue as he stays the extra furlong well. He can progress further and go in again for his top stable.

Chuzzlewit – 1.20 Ayr (6/4 Generally)

Aphelios – 5.05 Yarmouth (2/1)

CHUZZLEWIT finally gets his opportunity having been tested in very hot waters in his two starts so far. Last time he was in a Group 2 facing horses who had had more course experience than him. He’s very well regarded in his yard, with Kevin Ryan ranking him as one of the best juveniles he has had. That is some compliment and you’d think they’d be keen to get him off the mark.

He’s in a Class 4 today and doesn’t face anything of the calibre he had to contend with at York. We’ll take a chance that he’ll prove up to the hype.

APHELIOS is a really likeable sort who clearly enjoys his racing. His record is 3212212 showing outstanding consistency. He can be rewarded by getting his head in front in a Class 3 having just been touched off at York.

He perhaps got to the front a touch too early and was headed in the dying stages to lose by a narrow margin. He’s getting bags of weight here and can take full advantage.

Far From A Ruby – 5.20 Ayr (10/1 Generally)

FAR FROM RUBY heads back to Ayr, the scene of his last win, and just a 1lb higher having been dropped in the handicap. The softer conditions have probably contributed to the drop in trip to 7 furlongs and that extra stamina should aid his style as he likes to dictate things from the front.

That should allow him to get a few of these out of their comfort zone and make it a true test. His trainer Katie Scott has been hugely successful at Ayr this year with a record of 5-18 (28%) and a profit of +44.50 to a £1 stake. He rates a good each way bet in an open race.
