This opening few events of 2018 have been a difficult ones to predict so far, with some of the bigger names and rising star, joined by a new throng of quality golfers. As the standard continues to rise, of course it makes the betting all that more tougher, but despite a barren few events, check out another four picks for the Genesis Open below.
When a player has a win, two seconds and a top ten in their last five starts and won the event last year in convincing style, it’s almost impossible to ignore 8/1 favourite Dustin Johnson for the outright. And if you wanted any more convincing, he has finished fourth or better in six of ten visits to this event.
For an each-way pick, ol’ lefty, Phil Mickelson @22/1 looks to be back in the game and on form. An adjusted fitness regime seems to be paying dividends for Mickleson, with a fifth and second placed finish in his last two events. “Lefty” has not won an event in four years, but he is likely to be in the mix come Sunday.
Two outsider picks make up the four selections, with Ollie Schniederjans offering good value for a top twenty finish @2/1. A solid start to the year has brought two top ten finishes in recent weeks, however missed cuts just muddy the water a little, despite top twenty-five places in five of the last seven, including those cuts.
The other outside pick is Brendan Steele, who is another I like for a top twenty place @12/5. His 2018 had started with some reasonable consistency with three top twenty-five finishes, before picking up an excellent third at the Phoenix Open. He comes in fresh after a break and if he can maintain his good form, another high finish looks very likely here.
Dustin Johnson Outright @8/1
Phil Mickelson Each-Way @22/1
Ollie Schniederjans Top Twenty @2/1
Brendan Steele Top Twenty @12/5
