At Curragh on Sunday, the Irish St Leger features fourteen runners for this Group 1 contest, over the 1m 6f trip. This year’s contest looks to be a fantastically competitive affair, with leading five in the market, all capable of taking the spoils. Bet £5 – Get £20 offer at Curragh with Ladbrokes.
Consistent runner for Joseph O’Brien, who picked up a sixth victory at Curragh (1m 6f, yielding) last time out, when winning the St Leger trial last month, beating Princess Zoe by 1.75 lengths, with Emperor Of The Sun behind. The Melbourne Cup winner is expected to continue the great form and heads the way in the majority of betting circles.
Won a listed contest at Limerick (1m 4f, good) back in June, before placing sixth in the Group 3 – John Smith’s Silver Cup a month later. However, Johnny Murtagh’s charge stepped up well, to take the Ebor at York last time out, when beating Quickthorn by a head. Plenty of opportunity to progress in this higher level contest and can take a victory here.
Picked up a remarkable seven timer, having won the Group 3 – Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan (1m 6f, good) back in April, beating race rival Master Of Reality by half a length, as a 20/1 winner and at Belmont, over in the United States. That run was ended, when a creditable fifth in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud at Saint Cloud and will not look out of place in this contest. Strong claims for Joseph O’Brien’s runner here.

Dermot Weld’s mare has four wins to her career so far, but has not won since winning this race last year, when beating Fujaira Prince by 2 lengths and with race rival Twilight Payment also behind. She placed second on her seasonal return at Leopardstown (1m 6f, good to yielding)in the listed Saval Beg in May, before a disappointing run in the Irish Gold Cup. She usually runs well off a break and looks very much aimed for this contest.
MASTER OF REALITY
Two time winner of Her Majesty’s Plate, including on the latest run at Down Royal back in July, when 1.75 lengths clear of Federica Sophia and a further 3.5 lengths ahead of Springbank. He finished second to Baron Samedi back in April, in the Vintage Crops Stakes, when half a length adrift. This looks a little tough for another of Joseph O’Brien’s runners, but he could feature, if at his best.
Placed or better in thirteen of eighteen races, including a win at Naas (1m 3, heavy) in a listed contest, beating Bolivar by 2 lengths back in November of last year in a hurdle contest. Has performed reasonably in contests this season, including when 4.25 lengths adrift of Twilight Payment in the Irish Leger trial last month. Would need a massive push to take the win here, but could get involved in the battle for places.
