Every day, we’re going to be bringing you our lay of the day, in the hope of taking advantage of this FANTASTIC WELCOME OFFER, with Saturday’s selection racing in the 5:25pm Ayr, a Class 3 handicap, over 7f and playing host to nine runners

The Lay Of The Day

ASCENSION goes in as favourite for today’s race and has looked in good form, having come off the back of a victory in a Class 3 at Newmarket and will be hoping to secure a double this afternoon

The Reasons

Ascension’s three victories have come on good to soft ground or below, so far. The only decent result on anything firmer, was when third at Sandown (7f, good), finishing 1.75 lengths adrift of the winner, albeit in a Class 2 trip. Despite this being a drop in class from that performance, the drying conditions are not going to help and with several serious threats in this competitive handicap, it may well be a tougher ask than the market suggests

National League was a Class 2 winner at Hamilton (6f, heavy) in very differing conditions, a year ago and looked to be near that form, last time out when a good third at Doncaster (7f, good) nine days ago, 3 lengths behind winner Haqeeqy,

Queen’s Sargent has stepped up well from wins at Class 4 and 3 level, grabbing a class 2 second at Chester last month (7f, good to soft) and finishing sixth, just 2 lengths in a sterner Class 2 examination at Ascot a fortnight ago.

The other main threat is Harrison Point , who comes in looking for a hat-trick, having won over C&D in July, before securing a Class 3 win at Beverley (7f, soft) last time out, although he is another that would not want any firmer conditions.

Can Ascension justify his favourite status? Or will the drying conditions go against him?
