SATURDAY
ONS JABEUR – v Elena Rybakina (2:00pm, Wimbledon, Women’s Final)
The first final of Wimbledon takes place opn Saturday, with the Women’s tournament taking centre stage, as Tunisian, Ons Jabeur plays Kazakhstan’s, Elena Rybakina in a match that see’s two debut finalists meet.
Jabeur becomes the first Arab player to reach a Grand Slam final and is in great form, having won her last eleven matches so far. Rybakina is just 21 years old and already has a strong record at Wimbledon, winning eight and losing just once in two visits so far. Rybakina has a strong serve which she relies upon, but face a challenge from returns ace, Jabeur and its that, which can swing the match in the Tunisian’s favour here.
JABEUR TO WIN (8/13)
JIMI HENDRIX – Bet365 Mile Handicap (Newmarket, 2:40)
The final day of the July Meeting at Newmarket features some excellent racing and away from the big events, like the Superlative Stakes and July Cup, this bet365 Mile Handicap looks an interesting contest, with Bay Of Honour, Laasudood and Jimi Hendrix the leading lights and Its the latter of the three that i’m going for here
Jimi Hendrix looked solid on his return from a break, when third of six at Salisbury in April, before taking the spoils at Haydock (1m, good) in May, beating He’s A Gentleman by a length, edging clear in the final 110 yards. Ralph Beckett pushed him up to Class 2 level, when third of thirty in the Britannia Stakes at Ascot (1m, good to firm) last month, just 1.5 lengths back from winner, Thesis and ran on well in the closing stages. I fancy him to build upon that run here and take the race.
JIMI HENDRIX TO WIN (7/2)
SUNDAY
MAX VERSTAPPEN Austrian Grand Prix (Redbullring, Spielberg 2:00pm)
After the disappointment of the British Grand Prix, Red Bull have the chance for a quick turnaround in fortunes as they head to their home track for the Austrian Grand Prix. World Champion Max Verstappen was unfortunate in the race, having succumbed to floor damage and eventually finishing seventh overall.
Fortunately for Verstappen, main threat in the title race, Charles Leclerc could only finish a couple of places higher, so the Dutchman’s title lead is still a healthy one and I expect him to dominant on the teams home track.
VERSTAPPEN TO WIN THE RACE (4/6)
Draw Result France v Italy (Women’s Euro 2022, 8:00pm)
France take on Italy in this Womens Euro 2022 contest, with France the favourites to take the spoils. France will be looking to put recent reports of disharmony in the squad and continue a run of fourteen straight victories, however Italy won’t be a push-over.
Italy held favourites Spain to a recent friendly draw and are unbeaten in seven (barring penalties) and despite France being unbeaten in five against Italy, the sides have drawn two of the last three meetings, as the Italians have improved. I reckon a draw result would arguably suit both sides in what is otherwise a weak group with Portugal and Switzerland.
DRAW RESULT (33/10)
