HAPPY POWER – John Of Gaunt Stakes (Haydock 3:30pm)
One of the big races of the weekend is the Group 3 – John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock Park, with arguably three of the eight runner field in serious contention for the spoils, including Kinross and Sunray Major. However I’m going for Happy Power, trained by Andrew Balding.
He is in good form of late, following up a second at Wolverhampton (7f, a/w), when 0.75 lengths behind Tinker Toy last March, with a victory at Leicester, in the Listed – King Richard III Stakes last month, 2.25 lengths clear of Path of Thunder. This is a tougher task, but based on that form, Andrew Balding’s runner can find more.
HAPPY POWER TO WIN (4/1)
LIVERPOOL – v Real Madrid (Champions League Final, 8:00pm)
The UEFA Champions League Final takes place in Paris on Saturday evening, as Liverpool take on Real Madrid in a repeat of the 2018 final, which Los Blancos won 3-1. Real Madrid have just secured another La Liga title and will be raring to go, as they look to eliminate another English side, having already beaten Chelsea (5-4 agg.) and Man City (6-5 agg.) in the semi-final. Liverpool have had a slightly easier run, beating Benfica 6-4 agg.) and Villarreal (5-2 agg.) on the way to the final.
Despite the history of that last meeting, you could argue that Liverpool have improved moreso than their opponents, as Salah and Mane continue to prove their excellence. The likes of Benzema for Madrid are enjoying a rennaisance this season, but will that be enough to take the spoils again. Expect goals and if it becomes a battle of firepower, Jurgen Klopps men’s should take the win.
Liverpool To Win And Both To Score (27/10)
CHARLES LECLERC – Monaco Grand Prix (2:00pm)
Charles Leclerc looks to get his title bid back on track, after disappointment in the Spanish Grand Prix, as champion Max Verstappen’s win puts them 6pts ahead of the Monagasque.
Leclerc has not had a great record at Monaco, but so far in practice, his Ferrari has looked strong, thanks it part to the need for stability over speed. Time will tell, if he can win his home grand prix, but this looks a great opportunity for the Ferrari man to get back into the title race and keep the pressure on the world champion.
LECLERC TO WIN (17/20)
NOTTINGHAM FOREST – v Huddersfield Town (EFL Play-Off Final, 4:30pm)
The EFL Championship Play-Off Final takes place at Wembley Stadium, in one of the most valuable matches in world football, with the riches of the Premier League just a victory away.
Nottingham Forest needed penalties to eliminate a resolute Sheffield United side, while Huddersfield beat Luton Town 2-1 on aggregate to progress to this showpiece game. The sides have shared the last six meetings, with three wins apeice, but with Forest so close to a return to the big time, i just fancy them to take the spoils, over a very good Terriers team.
