Man City To Win (Man City vs Liverpool) Premier League, Saturday 12.30pm – 4/7

In what should be one of the games of the season, I’m fully expecting Man City to come out victorious in the lunchtime kick off on Saturday. Man City have been demolishing teams with ease lately, and although Liverpool will be a much tougher test, I can’t see anything stopping City from getting another three points this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently unbeaten in their last 10 games, and have won each of their last six games. At home they’ve won all eight games in 2023, only conceding three goals in the process. I expect Liverpool to be a tough assignment, but Man City are on a different level to the reds this season, and I expect that gulf in class to show on Saturday.

Liverpool have been a mixed bag this season, and it’s difficult to trust what side will turn up on Saturday. It could be the side that trounced Man Utd 7-0 at the start of March, or it could be the side that lost 1-0 to 19th-placed Bournemouth the following week! Away from home they’ve lost six of their last nine away games in all competitions, so they won’t exactly be full of confidence ahead of visiting the Etihad this weekend!

There’s not many games you’ll get odds of 4/7 for Man City to win at home, especially against a side with such a poor away record this season. Liverpool do tend to raise their game when facing Man City, but there’s just too much of a difference in their performances this season, and I’m confident Pep’s side will come out triumphant and keep the pressure on Arsenal.

Aztec Empire (Unibet Queen’s Prize Handicap) Kempton, Saturday 3.15pm – 7/4

Aztec Empire has quite a bit going for him in this. He looks like a quickly improving four-year-old with loads more to come against older rivals. He comes here after just over a month off so should be cherry ripe for this and his main adversaries have had a little lay off.

He’s got a C&D besides his name, Andrew Balding is in form and the enigmatic Oisin Murphy takes the ride. Everything points to a big run for him today.

Anthony Joshua To Win By KO/TKO (Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin) Boxing, Saturday 10.30pm – 1/4

Anthony Joshua will be determined to get back to winning ways on Saturday, having lost his last two fights to Oleksandr Usyk, and he’s found the perfect opportunity to do so against American Jermaine Franklin. This will be the biggest test of the American’s career to date and he won’t be fancying his chances against the two-time heavyweight champion.

Joshua’s fights don’t tend to ever go the distance, with only two of his professional wins going the full 12 rounds, and that should continue to be the case on Saturday night.

Franklin put in a solid effort when going the distance against Dillian Whyte, but he’ll struggle to match that performance against Joshua, who has a point to prove and will be determined to put on a show.

I don’t expect Joshua to win early doors, but I do expect him to win by KO/TKO at some point in the fight. It’s short odds but I’m fully expecting him to put on a performance in front of the home crowd and looking forward to watching him get back to his best!

Max Verstappen To Win (Australian Grand Prix) Formula 1, Sunday 6am – 1/3

Back-to-back one-two finishes for Red Bull to start the season should tell you everything you need to know about where the world title is heading. The Bulls look more dominant than ever and only a mechanical failure which relegated Max Verstappen to 15th on the grid in Jeddah has cut short talk of the Dutchman winning every race. Perhaps those conversations were premature, but the fact they were even being entertained in the paddock says a lot about how the rest of the campaign might unfold.

And Verstappen will arrive in Australia with added incentive as he aims to bury his Albert Park hoodoo. The 25-year-old has only once finished on the podium in Melbourne in six attempts, with two DNFs thrown in for good measure. Should he get the car round in one piece this time around, we’re expecting him to make light work of team-mate Sergio Perez in the battle of the Bulls at the front.

The shape of things behind the front two is perhaps a little more surprising at this early stage of the 2023 season, with Mercedes seemingly ahead of Ferrari on merit in Saudi Arabia and the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso emerging as the best of the rest to complete the podium in both opening rounds. However, you can expect Ferrari to come out fighting in Australia — a track where Charles Leclerc converted pole into victory last season.

Cronulla Sharks To Win -10.5 Handicap (Cronulla Sharks vs New Zealand Warriors) Australian NRL, Sunday 7.05am – 4/5

The New Zealand Warriors have been the surprise package this season and will come here full of confidence. The Cronulla Sharks however, were ultra-impressive against the Dragons with Hynes back at half back and will look to kick on back at Shark Park.

It was a bruising encounter for the Warriors against the Bulldogs which will have left its mark. Add to that the injury to Tohu Harris and it looks a tall order to back that game up.

Back the Sharks to win by more than 2 converted tries here.
