(1) (4:15pm York) CATCH CUNNINGHAM was 13/2 now 5/1
Kodiac colt out of Faithful Duchess, who cost 160,000gns as a 2-yo. Half brother to winners Palenville and Lumsden, while dam is a half-sister to a Group 2 winner. Trainer, Kevin Ryan tends to run his best 2-yo’s at York, so one to keep an eye on, especially with further market interest.
(2) (2:00pm Worcester) CELESTIAL GAYLE was 17/2, now 11/2
Another debutant, with this Telescope filly, out of Aimigayle. Half-sister to 2m 4f chase winner, Counteract, while dam Aimigayle was a bumper, hurdle and chase winner. Trainer has a 13% success rate in bumpers and looks capable of giving favourite, Theatre Glory a good test. Each-way claims looks strong here.
(3) (5:20pm Bath) GHERKIN was 8/1 now 13/2
Finally picked up a maiden win at the fourteenth time of asking, when taking the spoils at Brighton (6f, good to firm) a fortnight ago, beating Cobra Eye by a neck. Has been very consistent overall, with seven place finishes and can be in amongst them again today, despite a 2lbs rise. Each-way backing looks a solid choice here.
(4) (4:50pm York) SOCIOLOGIST was 11/1 now 9/1
Two wins for the first thirty-five starts, but comes in looking for a treble, having added to a win at Southwell (1m 3f, a/w) sixteen days ago, by winning at Thirsk, when 6 lengths clear of Daawy last weekend. 5lbs penalty may just stop them today, but on current form, looks to have a chance of getting involved.
(5) (6:10pm Perth) ORIENT SUNSET as 25/1, now 16/1
Ten race maiden, with little to shout about so far, although she did have a mildly encouraging run at Ayr (2m 4f, good to soft) last time out, when seventh of seventeen. 2lbs out of handicap and looks to be a place backed runner at best, despite the movement on the boards.
