(1) (2:15pm Ayr) KILLANE was 3/1, now 9/4
Donald McCain jnr runner, who was a four race maiden, but has now won two in the last three starts. The maiden victory came here at Ayr (2m 3f, good), when 1.25 lengths clear of Flood Defence back in October and looked set to challenge for a double, when unseating his rider at Southwell the following month. However, he bounced back twelve days ago, to beat Bestiarius by half a length at Newcastle (2m, good to soft). Firmly in the mix here for the spoils, with Cancan the obviously concern. Strong claims overall.
(2) (3:15pm Ayr) HEARTBREAK KID was 7/1, now 5/1
Two wins and two places in nine starts, for another Donald McCain Jnr, with both victories coming last year, at Sedgefield (2m, heavy and 2m good to soft). More recently, he has twice placed third since seasonal return, with a third of five at Southwell (1m 7f, good). He is the outsider of five runners, but based on recent performances, he should be involved, with a tentative outright bet, the way forward.
(3) (1:05pm Ayr) GLENTRUAN was 10/1 now 13/2
One victory in ten starts, with that maiden win coming at the sixth time of asking, back in March at Cork (2m 4f, yielding), when beating The Greek by 2.25 lengths, with the front three some 10 lengths clear. Has since placed 2-835 and will need a return to form, on debut for Anne Duffield. Solid market interest and decent each-way claims overall.
(4) (2:55pm Newcastle) INTERNATIONAL LAW was 10/1, now **15/2***
Experienced 7-yo, with eighth wins in 61 starts, with the last of those at Wolverhampton (1m 1f, a/w) back in March. Winless run stretches to eleven runs now, whilst recent form has dipped just a little, finishing sixth of nine over C&D in September, before placing fourth of five last time out, once again over C&D eighteen days ago, albeit 1.75 lengths adrift of the winner. Needs to step up form here, with a drop down to Class 6 level likely to help. Each-way claims, if able to improve.
(5) (2:25pm Newcastle) BATTLE OF WILLS was 25/1, now 16/1
Four career wins came in the opening dozen career starts, however he has failed to repeat the feat in the last thirteen starts. He has chopped and changed yards on several occasions, with little success, although a fifth of nine, in a Class 3 at Kelso back in February, showed glimpses of hope, despite finished 50 plus lengths adrift. He is becoming better treated by the handicapper nowadays and with a little interest in the market, a small place punt, maybe worth a shot.
