(1) (8:00pm Doncaster) MERCURIST was 7/1, now 9/2
Two wins in twelve starts, including a win three runs ago at Lingfield (1m, a/w) in February, when 2.25 lengths clear of Act Of Magic. Placed fourth in latest at Wolverhampton (1m a/w), when denied a clear run three weeks ago, but was still only 2 lengths adrift. Entitled to be in the mix based on recent form and currently edges the market. Strong claims this evening.
(2) (12:30pm Leicester) SIAVASH was 9/1, now 5/1
One win in twelve, which came on debut, Last November at Wolverhampton (1m, a/w) when a 50/1 shot. Has been unable to build upon that success, but did pick up his best result since that victory, last time out, when fourth again ay Wolverhampton (1m 4f, a/w) nineteen days ago. Drop in weights and an added visor could help, but neds to show a little more here, with each-way claims at best
(3) (2:50pm Haydock) FOX CHAMPION was 12/1 now 11/2
All four wins came in a four-timer run, culminating in the last of those in Cologne, for the German 2,000 Guineas (1m, good) two years ago. Has dropped 12lbs in the weights since the Royal Hunt Cup entry back in June of last year and makes debut for Ralph Beckett in this contest. Backed in well, but still one or two questions remain over recent form. Braver souls may back the outright, but each-way claims look the safer option
(4) (6:15pm Wolverhampton) SPIRIT MIXER was 10/1 now 6/1
Three runs so far, with little fanfare, but this Frankel runner, out of a Group 1 winner, should have more to give than has so far been seen. Makes seasonal and handicap debut this evening, with plenty of market interest. Once again each-way backing looks the more agreeable choice.
(5) (6:45pm Wolverhampton) RUE DE LA GAITE as 14/1, now 7/1
Five race maiden who has been in and around the places, with the best so far, a second place on debut at Kempton (1m, a/w) last Summer, when 2 lengths behind Cognac. Well below regular form in last run, when 9 lengths adrift in sixth at Yarmouth, but returns from a near two-hundred day break, with something to prove. Places looks the more likely here.
