(1) (7:00pm Wolverhampton) BERYL THE PERIL was 9/4 now 11/8
Has been gradually getting closer to victory since joining Kevin Phillipart De Foy, with her form reading 432. Her last two efforts at Chelmsford and then over course and distance have seen her get within a length of the winner and Laura Pearson takes off a very useful 3lbs once again. Few in this field are trending in the right direction and it feels inevitable that she will win a race some time soon.
(2) (3:20pm Ayr) RIVER MEADOW was 11/2 now 4/1
Unraced as yet for Nicky Richards, but it is his pedigree that jumps out and suggests he could be a very useful jumps recruit. He is related on her dam’s side to both Ned Kelly and Nick Dundee, who were precocious at the top level in Ireland, while he is a three-part brother to bumper winner Will Sting. It is a bumper in which he will make his debut and this 55,000-euro purchase looks one to follow.
(3) (1:05pm Ayr) ARTIC MANN was 6/1 now 7/2
Made a sound chasing debut at Kelso (2m 7f, soft) earlier this month, with his proximity to the winner precluding his finishing position. Given the competitive nature of that race, it is generous of the handicapper to have eased him 1lb in the weights. The step back in trip is not an obvious plus, but Nick Alexander’s form with his chasers this season, operating at a 20% strike rate, is excellent.
(4) (1:25pm Kempton) SECRET ARMY was 7/1 now 11/2
Caught the eye on his debut at Nottingham (1m, soft) and David Menuisier’s juvenile should be able to build on that on his all-weather debut. This looks a useful novice event, but he has an ideal draw out of stall 1 to get himself a much better track position and now he’s learned the game, it’s unlikely he’ll be as readily outpaced this time.
(5) (7:00pm Wolverhmapton) MILLION REASONS was 14/1 now 15/2
Another in this class 6 handicap, punters have latched onto David Evans’ charge as he drops back to seven furlongs. He never featured last Thursday at Wolverhampton (1m ½ f, standard) but that mile trip probably stretched him. Back in distance and off his lowest ever handicap mark, he may need only regain the form of recent efforts at Brighton and Lingfield to feature.
