(1) (2:00pm Newbury) NINA THE TERRIER was 9/2 now 3/1
Winner on debut at Doncaster (2m, good), a year ago in a bumper contest, but had to wait until May and a further four races to add to the tally, when 3 lengths clear of Subway Surf at Warwick (2m, good to soft). Alan King’s charge, returned after a five month break and made it a double with victory at Chepstow (2m 3f, good) last month. Has more to come off the back of that result and is very likely to feature in this contest.
(2) (1:45pm Sedgefield) JUST CALL ME AL was 5/1, now 10/3
Just two wins in twenty-six starts for Gillian Boanas’s runner, however the latest of those came in the penultimate start, over C&D (good) in September, getting up to the leaders three from home and biding his time, before taking the lead at the last and beating Solider On Parade by 5 lengths. He struggled in latest, under a 7lbs penalty, eight days later, again over C&D, but is 2lbs lower this time and will be fresh from a short break. Strong claims and plenty of market interest
(3) (5:25pm Chelmsford) SHOW ME A SUNSET was 6/1 now 4/1
Like the previous runner, this Robert Cowell trained entry, hasn’t the best of form, with two wins in seventeen, however he too, picked up a victory in the penultimate start, when rallying to comeback at Freedom Flyer and win by a shorthead. He did struggle last time out at Kempton, when getting into trouble and losing ground 4f out, but is expected to bounce back to form here. Already a C&D winner back in January and has seen plenty of money on the boards.
(4) (1:12pm Sedgefield) GOLD RUNNER was 15/2 now 5/1
A maiden winner at the thirteenth time of asking, when 1.5 lengths clear of Linalee King at Southwell back in February, with that pair some 6.5 lengths clear of the rest. Placed third and fourth in two subsequent runs in March, before taking a Summer break. Previous attempt over fences didn’t go well, having fell and been pulled-up, so returns to this sphere with some element of risk. Despite making an impression in the market, places looks a safer option, considering the time off and the previous chasing attempts.
(5) (2:08pm Ludlow) ARCADE ATTRACTION was 9/1, now 6/1
Three wins in twenty-one starts, including a victory at this venue back in May, over 2m 5f (good to soft), when 2 lengths clear of Miss Harriett. Evan Williams’s contender has gone close in three subsequent runs since, including a second at Wincanton (2m 3f, good to firm) three weeks ago. Capable of featuring, although this first time over 3m plus does pose a few questions, Place backing the more likely option here.
