(1) (12:15pm Musselburgh) THUNDER ROCK was 11/10 now 1/3
Bumped into the useful Might I on hurdles debut at Newton Abbot in October and went one place better when subsequently going in at Wetherby. Front two that day pulled a bit clear of the remainder and although he has a 6lb penalty to contend with for that success, a mark of 122 puts him a good way clear of these rivals.
(2) (5:30pm Wolverhampton) BIBULOUS was 11/8 now 5/6
Looked like a shrewd breeze-up purchase at around the 40,000 guineas mark when an 18/1 fourth at Kempton on debut in October. Built on that initial promise when justifying favouritism dropped back to 6f at the same track last time out. Value for further than the winning margin of a length there, and draw favourably to deploy similar prominent tactics here from stall 3.
(3) (5:00pm Wolverhampton) DARWELL LION was 10/3 now 15/8
From the recent back in training The Last Lion and confirmed himself to be a useful 2yo in his own right when scoring on debut at Lingfield last year. Below that level in two recent outings, but he is back in the UK here for his debut for the bang in-form David O’Meara, and on that debut showing (two directly behind that day now rated 90 and 80 respectively) this current mark of 83 looks workable.
(4) (1:00pm Ludlow) ON THE PLATFORM was 11/2 now 11/4
Cut little ice in maiden/novice company over hurdles last season but came good when switched to handicaps on return from a break, scoring at Bangor in May. Respectable second on chase debut back at that venue in October, and he gets in here running off the same handicap mark. One of a trio of runners for local trainer John Groucott, who has taken three of the last four renewals of this race.
(5) (12:30pm Ludlow) LIBERTY POWER was 12/1 now 7/2
By far his best performance in five starts on the flat for Tim Easterby last year came when third on handicap debut at Hamilton. Subsequently disappointed at Pontefract, however, and failed to complete on stable/hurdle debut at Fontwell in October. This is a painfully weak assignment, however, and a flat rating of just 62 wouldn’t need to be improved dramatically on for him to feature.
