CRYSTAL ESTRELLA (3:55pm Goodwood) was 9/2, now 7/2
Made an okay debut back in October, when seventh of twelve at Newmarket (7f, good), before returning to action last month and placing fourth at Sandown (1m 2f, good), some 10.5 lengths behind a vastly superior Emily Upjohn. Respected on that performance and looks capable of going all the way here for a maiden win. Backed in to favouritism on the market.
QUARTER BLUE (1:45pm Bath) was 5/1, now 4/1
Nine race maiden, whose best performance came back in October, when third of fourteen at Kempton (7f, a/w) and some 1.75 lengths adrift of winner, Queen Of Burgundy. Has been competitive since and the fourth in her latest, at Bath (5f, good to firm) was better than it may seem, having been found wanting for room in the final furlong. Capable of more, but may find Clashaniska too strong.
HAZIYA (6:00pm Curragh) was 11/2, now 4/1
Useful performer for Michael Halford, who placed third in three of five starts last season, over 1m 2f. The filly then switched to Joseph O’Brien’s yard and made an immediate impact, when taking the spoils at Leopardstown (1m, good) at the beginning of April, beating Jungle Cove by 3 lengths. Takes on a massive 13lbs rise this afternoon, but further improvement is possible. Backed in to favouritsm and could make it a double.
SHORE SHANTY (8:35pm Wolverhampton) was 15/2, now 5/1
Lightly raced, with the one and only victory, coming at Ludlow (2m, good), back in November 2020. Has been consistently just outside the places since, with a fifth of nine in his latest at Newton Abbot (2m 2f, good), some 9 lengths, behind the useful Camembert Electric. Likely to show improvement, with fitness from that run and can get involved this evening.
ANIMATO (4:45pm Haydock) was 15/2, now 6/1
Winner at the third time of asking, when taking the spoils at Musselburgh (7f, good to soft), back in September. He ended the season with a disappointing run at York, before returning to action four weeks ago and needing the run at Beverley (7f, good), when last of five. However, with that run under his belt, a more productive third of ten, again at Beverley, over a first time 1m 2f, has renewed hopes of a return to winning ways. Comes in off the same mark and could surprise, if able to progress at this distance.
