BUNIANN (6:00pm Newcastle) was 8/1, now 9/2
Five time winner here at Newcastle, but without a victory in nine, since taking the spoils here over 5f, when a shorthead clear of Another Angel. Performances had dropped off since, although a recent sixth of eighteen at Doncaster (6f, good), 4.75 lengths behind True Mason, does offer hopes of further revival in fortunes. Drop back in grade and a return to the all-weather should see a big improvement this evening.
PERFECT SWISS (8:00pm Chester) was 7/1, now 5/1
Six wins and twelve places for this Tim Easterby trained runner, who picked up a couple of strong results last Autumn, including a victory at Pontefract (1m, good to firm), beating Ghost Rider by 0.75 lengths in September and bagging a second at Newcastle a month later. Has had two starts since a return from a break and picked up a fourth of thirteen last time out at Wetherby (1m, good). Off a good mark once again and has strong claims.
LIBERATION BAY (2:20pm Yarmouth) was 15/2, now 6/1
Decent enough debut last month, when eighth of seventeen at Newbury (6f, good to soft), before improving sixteen days later to finish third of seven at Chelmsford (6f, a/w) eight days ago, when 4.75 lengths adrift of True Statesman. Has the advantage in the weights thanks to the sex allowance here, but needs to improve some more to take the spoils. Each-way claims at a push, but places very likely here.
WYVERN (3:30pm Yarmouth) was 12/1, now 13/2
Winner at Wolverhampton in March (6f, a/w), when 1.25 lengths clear of Top Exhibit, but has failed to build upon that in three runs since, including the latest at Sandown (7f, good to firm), when last but one, thirteen days ago, once again pulling hard as he has done before. Backed in on the markets, but difficult to assertain where his head will be this time around. places at best.
MANU ET CORDE (6:43pm Curragh) was 16/1, now 10/1
Only win came at the third time of asking, at Leopardstown, a year ago, but has not kicked on as hoped since, placing second last September here at Curragh (1m, good). However, a third in the Ulster Derby at Down Royal (1m 5f, yielding) offers renewed hopes for this Jim Bolger runner, with this extended trip likely to help further. large price still, but warrants each-way interest off the back of that last run.
