THUNDERSHOWER (7:50pm Nottingham) was 10/3, now 2/1
Made a relatively low-key debut at Chelmsford (1m 2f, a/w) back in February, when 2.75 lengths adrift of Grand Alliance, who has since gone on to win at Class 3 level. With that in mind, there should be more to come from this team Gosden runner, with Rob Havlin continuing onboard. Backed in to clear favourite, although money also for Exciting News is another to bear in mind.
HURT YOU NEVER (8:20pm Nottingham) was 9/2, now 9/4
Ten race maiden, who showed improvement, when bagging a third of sixteen at Redcar (6f, good to soft), behind Stanley Snugfit in April. Adrian Nicholls’ runner then stepped up to finally grab a first career win, last time out at Carlisle (6f, good to firm), beating Highland Queen by 2 lengths, nineteen days ago. 7lbs rise asks for more here, but the market confidence expects another victory.
LADY CELIA (3:30pm Hamilton) was 6/1, now 4/1
Last of three wins came back in August 2020, when sealing a double at Newcastle (6f, a/w). Arguably been unlucky since, placing second on four occasions, being beaten by no more than 0.75 lengths in each. Having grabbed some fitness at Ripon on return last month, she placed fourth of eight at Ayr (5f, good to firm) and comes into this contest with more still to come. Expected to be in the mix, with each-way backing, arguably the more sensible option, within this competitive field.
PHINOW (5:45pm Nottingham) was 7/1, now 9/2
Looked good on return in April, when second at Chelmsford (6f, a/w), before picking up a maiden victory at Wolverhampton (5f, a/w) last month, beating Time Shadow by 0.75 lengths in a strong display. Charlie Hills’ runner struggled on his step up in class at Lingfield (6f, a/w), last time out on handicap debut, but the drop back to 5f is likely to draw a better run this time around. Backed in, with each-way appeal.
LEGEND OF DUBAI (5:00pm Ascot) was 9/1, now 11/2
Roger Varian’s runner got off to a strong start to his career, with three successive places in 2020. He has been lightly raced since, taking a maiden win at Ffos Las (1m 4f, good) back in August of last year, before returning to action at Newmarket at the end of April, to take the spoils over 1m (good), beating Carolus Magnus by 4.25 lengths. Backed into favouritism overnight and this morning, but faces a tough test from both Astro King and Symbolize, with each-way backing, the obvious move.
