(1) (1:10pm Leicester) JACK VALENTINE was 6/1, now 7/2
Consistent sort, with two wins and six places across nine career starts so far, winning at Exeter (2m, soft) at the end of last season. Returned to finish second in a conditional hurdle in October at Newton Abbot (2m, heavy), just a length off the winner, before going off a little too quickly on latest appearance here, resulting in a fifth placed finish. Enjoys soft ground and assuming he can handle the fences, on chasing debut today, looks capable of going all the way.
(2) (4:45pm Kempton) HIROSHI was 7/1, now 7/2
Has struggled in early starts, but has progressed nicely since switching to nurseries, finishing third at Wolverhampton (1m, a/w) in November, before a fourth last time out at Southwell last month (1m, a/w) on fibresand debut. Needs a little more, especially to beat Nortonthorpe Boy the main threat, while a change from cheekpieces to blinkers is also of note. Hollie Doyle continues onboard.
(3) (7:20pm Kempton) MY BOY SEPOY was 12/1, now 7/2
Without a win in sixteen races and is 0-13 on the all-weather, but with hints of form in recent trips, including a second here (1m 2f) in November, when a neck behind My Poem, its no surprise to see backing in the markets. Stuart Williams’s yard is in good form and he has a solid opportunity here.
(4) (3:10pm Leicester) THE CROONER was 25/1, now 8/1
One and only victory came at this track, thirteen month ago (1m 7f, heavy), but he was subsequently pulled-up in two starts at the end of last season. Has returned in better shape it seems, but form is still an issue, with the seventh at Warwick (3m, soft) last month, seeing them some 50 lengths adrift. Improvement needed and looks no better than a place prospect.
(5) (4:15pm Kempton) WOO WOO was 33/1, now 10/1
Only one decent performance in four starts, when fifth of eight at Newmarket back in October. Has struggled over 7f and mile trips, so the drop in trip is likely to help, but in reality needs to find more on handicap debut. Booking of Cieran Fallon offers hope, as does this less than competitive field.
