(1) (5:10pm Ayr) SOFT RISK was 7/1 now 7/2
My Risk gelding out of Douce Ambiance who cost £40,000 as a 3-yo. Unplaced on the flat on France, before being brought over to Nicky Richards’ yard. Half-sister to a Group placed and middle-distance winner, while the trainer has a 22% strike-rate in bumpers. Solid chances with market money this morning too.
(2) (8:20pm Southwell) I’M ON SNAP was 16/1, now 7/2
Sixteen race maiden, with a couple of places over the Summer last year (2m - 2m 6f). Now switched over from Ireland to Tom Lacey’s yard, but with a bit to prove. Has had huge backing in the market overnight and this morning however and is very much the steamer of the day. JJ Burke rides today.
(3) (3:45pm Gowran Park) OVERHEER was 16/1 now 5/1
Only career win came at Tipperary (1m 1f, good to yielding) back in September, when 2.5 lengths clear of Blankiedoodie. Has dropped off since, with a couple of seventh placed finishes at Curragh, although heavy ground on both, arguably didn’t help. Conditions should suit, assuming no more rain comes and he is another who has seen plenty of market interest. Each-way claims.
(4) (2:20pm Ayr) COOKING FAT was 11/1 now 8/1
Lightly raced in recent years, (four races in the last 29 months), but looked decent enough over fences for the first time in a while, when fifth at Carlisle (2m 4f, good to soft) last month, finishing 9.5 lengths adrift of the winner. Off a decent mark and capable of getting involved. Places look more likely, but a small each-way wager wouldn’t be out of the question
(5) (8:30pm Wolverhampton) ZAFARANAH as 18/1, now 9/1
Four wins in forty-three starts, but has placed in eleven. The last of those came at Wolverhampton (1m, a/w) back in November, when a length behind Athmad, but since then this mare has not finished higher than seventh in six subsequent runs. Makes debut for Stephen Hanlon’s yard and has new headgear to boot. Needs to show improvement, but has had plenty of market interest, with places worth a look.
