(1) (3:45pm Ludlow) JOHN CONSTABLE was 9/1, now 9/2
Five career wins in fifty starts, isn’t the most spectacular of records and at his peak, he was miles ahead of this sort of field, but having seen his mark drop heavily, he has found glimpses of past form, with a second at Uttoxeter (1m 7f, good) back in July, finishing 1.75 lengths adrift of Get Back Get Back. Has struggled in two runs since, although soft ground last time out at Bangor (2m, soft) did not help. Strong chance at this level and has seen plenty of backing overnight.
(2) (5:25pm Ludlow) STUPID CUPID was 13/1, now 13/2
An interesting selection, with this mare dropping right off, since winning at Worcester (2m 7f, good to soft) as a 25/1 shot, last year. Latest three runs have seen her pulled-up, yet there has been plenty of interest, with Sheila Lewis’s yard in good form. Tough ask to turn things around so dramatically, with a place selection, the safer option.
(3) (4:34pm Carlisle) SOYOUTHINKSOAGAIN was 20/1, now 8/1
Third in a bumper at Huntingdon and followed on with a fifth on hurdle debut, at the same venue last November (1m 7f, good to soft). However, form has severely dropped off, with the latest, seeing them finish tenth at Doncaster (2m, good to soft) back in January. First time cheek-pieces today and with Harry Skelton onboard, there is potential for a significant improvement. Each-way backing looks the better option.
(4) (4:45pm Lingfield) SHANTUNG was 15/1, now 8/1
Her only career victory, came over C&D (good to soft), when 12 lengths clear that day. Has since been on a run of poor results, including the latest, when fifth at Doncaster (3m, soft) back in February. With that in mind, the handicapper has been relatively kind, while a breathing operation may well have helped too. Trainer, Lucy Wadham has had two first time out winners this month and has a great opportunity here, with the market also giving plenty of backing.
(5) (4:59pm Chelmsford) RESET BUTTON was 22/1, now 8/1
Shown very little in three maidens so far, beating just four runners across the trio of races. Those were over 7f, with today’s extension to 1m 2f, potentially getting some more out of him. The booking of Tom Marquand is an interesting one and that has helped pique interest on the markets. At best and each-way claim though.
