(1) (1:15pm Newmarket) QUINTILLUS was 11/2, now 2/1
This Dubawi colt, out of Epitome, is a half-brother to seven winners, including Group 2 winner, Ultra and French Group 3 winner, Synopsis. Pedigree points to improvement in another year, but its difficult to ignore him here. William Buick is onboard and it would not be a surprise to see a big performance on debut.
(2) (4:15pm Newcastle) BELLATRIXSA was 7/1, now 11/4.
Improving well, over three career runs, placing second in a maiden at Ayr (1m 2f, good to soft) in July, before returning from a short break and picking up a third at Haydock on handicap debut a fortnight ago, albeit 6.5 lengths adrift of the winner, Licit. Has more to come and assuming she can adjust to the all-weather, she has significant hopes.
(3) (3:50pm Listowel) DIFFERENT SPOT was 10/1, now 11/2
Won a point race and a hunter chase for Enda Bolger back in 2018, but had struggled for form until recently. Switched to Paul O’Flynn’s yard and has seen a vast improvement, with a fifth at Galway (2m, yielding to soft) eighteen days ago, followed by a fourth at Tramore (2m, good) eight days ago, both in maiden hurdles. He returns to chasing this afternoon, but if he can continue the step up in form, then should feature.
(4) (4:45pm Newmarket) SARVAN was 24/1, now 13/2
Showed promise in early runs and backed that up with a victory in a maiden at Pontefract (1m 2f, good to firm) back in July, winning by 2.5 lengths. Has struggled to kick on from that win in handicaps, with a best of fifth at Goodwood (1m 3f, good), but struggled last time out, when fifth at Ripon (1m 1f, soft) at the end of last month. Cheek pieces added, but needs to show a bit more. Each-way claims look best option.
(5) (8:30pm Newcastle) MACHO TIME was 15/1, now 8/1
Winner of first two career starts, but currently on a run of seven without success. He finished sixth at Chester (6f, good to soft), before an eighth placed finish, last time out at Haydock, 4.25 lengths behind the winner. Drops down a level which will offer some hope, but once again, each-way backing looks the best call here.
