Today’s top selections from the press and media feature all five runners from Newcastle, including a pair of contenders in the 7:15pm race. So check out the top five most popular newspaper tips below, along with the best odds available.
1: KEN’S SAM’S (7:15pm Newcastle) (4 Votes)
Last appearance here, was when beaten by a nose over course and distance a year ago and running better than results suggest, finishing a length and a half behind Lapilli and Red Cymbal last time out at Dundalk, eleven days ago. Strong favourite here on a rare run outside Ireland and 5lb lighter than last visit.

2: MAJESTIC SANDS (5:45pm Newcastle) (3 Votes)
Won on debut in May at Leicester in a Class 4, before finishing way down the field in the Coventry Stakes at Ascot to little surprise in fairness. Drops down to Class 5 level for this 5f trip and looks to be the main threat to Its’mabirthday, in what looks to be a straight fight for the victory.

3: NORTHERN POWERHOUSE (6:15pm Newcastle) (3 Votes)
Finished second on All-weather debut over course and distance in October. Continued the progression with a win in an eleven runner handicap again over C&D last December in a Class 4 and has a strong chance once again this evening, despite being 5lb higher.
(Shropshire Star, Andy Morris. Daily Record, Garry Owen. Scottish Sun, Jim Delahunt)
4: ORIENTAL LILLY (5:15pm Newcastle) (2 Votes)
Strong record at Newcastle, with five wins and three places in eighteen starts at the Gosforth Park track. Last three starts have seen a run of 263 (all Newcastle). Has strong hopes although prefers a bit of pace early on.
(Western Morning News, West Tip. Racing and Football Outlook, Andrew Mount)
5: GUNMAKER (7:15pm Newcastle) (2 Votes)
One win in thirty-three starts doesn’t look great, however a 30% place rate is decent enough and form has been better in recent outings. Consecutive third places at Chelmsford and then over course and distance when beaten by half a length. Blinkers for first time are likely to help too, with a place at least on offer.
