1: LINE OF DESCENT (2:50pm Hamilton) (3 votes)

Strong debut in March, when third of eleven at Doncaster (1m 2f, good), before returning in June and seemingly needing the run, when fourth again at Doncaster (1m 3f, good to firm). Stepped up to Class 3 level in latest, twenty-five days ago, when second at Newmarket (1m 4f, good to firm), some 4.25 lengths behind winner, Thousand Oaks. Drops back to Class 5 this afternoon and looks to have a massive opportunity for a maiden victory based on recent form.

2: LEGENDARY DAY (3:25pm Hamilton) (3 votes)

Sealed a double at Leicester (1m, good to firm) in his penultimate start, when 2.75 lengths clear of Urban War. Stepped up in class on hattrick bid, but finished third of fourteen at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) last time out, off a 6lbs higher mark. Extension to 1m 1f looks a positive step and that drop in weight should be enough to see them return to winning ways, for this clear favourite.

3: FANTALOPE (3:45pm Wolverhampton) (3 votes)

Three races so far, with a second in her penultimate race at Chelmsford (1m 2f, a/w) netting a second placed finish, when 3.5 lengths behind odds on favourite, Night Hunter. Decent enough turf debut, last time out at Windsor and makes handicap debut this afternoon, without a hood for the first time too. Workable mark and is clear favourite.

4: SOWS (5:55pm Leicester) (3 votes)

Won a Class 5 contest on debut at Nottingham (5f, good), as a 16/1 shot back in June and has since had a tougher time of things, finishing last but one in the Group 3 – Albany Stake and then sixth and fourth in a couple of Class 2 contests, including the latest at Goodwood (6f, good to soft) eighteen days ago, when unable to find anymore in the closing stages. Drop to Class 4 today will be a massive plus point, as will the 2lbs drop.

5: STAR SHIELD (6:55pm Leicester) (2 votes)

Strong record of four wins and eleven places in thirty starts for David O’Meara runner. Since the last of those wins, back in September, he has placed in three of seven starts, including at Ayr (7f, good to firm) in the penultimate run, when a length behind winning favourite, Global Humor. Wears a tongue-strap this evening to help, having carried his head awkwardly last time out at Thirsk. Improvement likely, but places probably look more likely.
