Today’s top selections from the press and media, feature a pair of runners from both Ascot and Punchestown, along with an entry at Pontefract. Check these out below, along with new customer sign-up offer at Betway.

1: HAQEEQY (3:55pm Ascot) (9 votes)

Four wins in six starts so far and comes into today’s contest seeking a treble, having won at Doncaster in the last two races, including the Lincoln Handicap (1m, good) last month, on return and in the first contest after being gelded. He beat Brunch by 1.5 lengths and it could have been more, if avoiding trouble early on. Elevates further in class today which shouldn’t be a problem and has previously won on firm ground.

2: BLACK OP (7:00pm Punchestown) (4 votes)

Runner-up in the Kauto Star Novices Chase back in 2019 and has since placed sixth in the King George on Boxing Day, 17 lengths adrift of winner, Frodon, but showing promise regardless. His seventh in the Gold Cup last month was a tough ask for Tom George’s runner, but he comes in off a good mark, now back handicapping and has attracted some expert backing here. Has a victory and two places in four starts over 2m 4f.

3: HIGHLY SPRUNG (3:50pm Pontefract) (3 votes)

Today will be his seventieth race and he has a decent enough record of eleven wins and thirteen places in that time. His last victory came at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) last June, when beating Tin Hat by a shorthead. Form since hasn’t been that inspiring, but his seventh on return at Doncaster, should have been better, having kept on well when eventually finding space to push on. Runs off lowest mark since 2019 and has genuine chances.

4: REWAAYAT (4:30pm Ascot) (2 votes)

Sealed a double last Summer, when winning at Salisbury (6f, good to firm) and on his return, he looked to continue his good form, when second at Newmarket (5f, good), when 1.75 lengths adrift of Arecibo, a fortnight ago. He drops in grade today which can only encourage his hopes still further, off the back of that last run.

5: KEMBOY (5:55pm Punchestown) (2 votes)

Won the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown (3m, soft) in February, when 2 lengths clear of The Storyteller and accounting for Minella Indo too. He couldn’t repeat the feat in the Cheltenham equivalent, struggling for a third successive year, but has the chance to redeem himself in a contest that he won two years ago, when beating race rival Al Boum Photo. Fascinating contest and Willie Mullins charge can go close here.
