1: AYE RIGHT (3:00pm Newbury) (5 votes)

Finished a long way back in fifth in the RSA Chase (3m, soft) back in March, on what was only the third career start over fences, but has returned with some good form since, finishing second at Kelso (2m 1f, good to soft) in a Class 2 contest, before finishing third in his most recent outing at Wetherby (3m, soft) in the Grade 2 - Charlie Hall Chase, finishing 5 lengths adrift of race rival, Vinndication. Who is 7lbs worse off today. Capable of going close but may need to find a little more.

2: ASHINGTON (1:43pm Doncaster) (3 Votes)

Winner of a couple of novice hurdles last year and placed in a couple of handicaps at Musselburgh, (both 2m, good to soft) at the beginning of the year. Kept his eye in with a couple of flat races at Catterick, before returning to hurdles, last month, finishing third at Cheltenham in a Class 3 contest, even after being badly hampered, two from home. Kevin Brogan claims 7lbs today, onboard and he goes in as justified favourite for this contest.

3: CHRISTOPHER WOOD (1:50pm Newbury) (2 Votes)

Won on the flat at Pontefract (1m 4f, good) in June, which was his third victory under that code. Returned to hurdles after a break, when third at Bangor (2m 3f, soft) seventeen days ago, finishing 6 lengths adrift of the winner, but clearly needed the run. The extended trip looks better suited to Paul Nicholls’ ride who is 3 from 9 over flights and he tends to flourish under these conditions. Surprisingly big price, considering and well worth some each-way backing.

4: PYM (3:15pm Newcastle) (2 Votes)

Won twice at the back end of last year, taking the spoils at Ascot (2m 7f, soft) in November and then at Cheltenham (3m 1f, good to soft, the following month. Was pulled-up in subsequent races in the new year, including in the RSA at the Festival, but bounced back with a win at Sandown three weeks ago, in a small three runner field, beating odds on favourite, If The Cap Fits, by 2.5 lengths. On form and looking sharp too, Pym has a strong chance here.

5: MOONLIGHTER (3:35pm Newbury) (2 Votes)

Winner here back in January (2m, heavy) and placed in solid performances since, including a second at Stratford (2m, soft) back in February and then on seasonal debut at Exeter (2m 1f, good) in the Grade 2 - Haldon Cup race, when a neck behind the very useful Greaneteen. Rises 5lbs for today’s race, but another similar run to his latest, will put him firmly in the picture for the spoils.
