Today’s top selections from the press and media feature a pair of runners from Ascot, along with picks from Haydock, Lingfield and Newcastle. So check out the top five most popular newspaper tips below, along with the best odds available.
1: GERONIMO (3:15pm Haydock) (3 Votes)
Struggled on good ground in the Scottish National last April, but has looked much more comfortable on softer conditions, winning over 2m 4f at Newcastle on seasonal debut in December and following on with a third at today’s venue on heavy ground over 3m. Needs to find a little more, but conditions and the extra distance should aide their chances.

2: SAM BROWN (1:50pm Ascot) (2 Votes)
Has won five of six career races so far, with the exception when placed fourth on hurdle debut. Won a Grade 2 novices at Haydock last time out, winning by 15 lengths in a small field on heavy ground and today’s extended trip looks to suit further. Can be prone to the odd error, but looks the one to beat.

3: DOMAINE DE L’ISLE (2:25pm Ascot) (2 Votes)
WInner in five of eleven chase races so far and made it three wins on the bounce, when taking a Class 2 handicap chase over 2m 5f at today’s venue. Looks more suited to the extended 2m 7f this afternoon and even with a 6lb rise, looks a strong contender

4: EL GHAZWANI (3:45pm Lingfield) (2 Votes)
Odds on favourite with a superb record over course and distance of 111611, with the anomaly of sixth coming from contact with other runners. Last two wins have come in his most recent runs and looks good for a hat-trick even with a 7lb penalty.

5: PORTLEDGE (6:00pm Newcastle) (2 Votes)
Returned to action after a six month break, with an impressive third over course and distance and sits just 2lbs higher than when finishing third in a Class 3 last July. Expected to improve off the back of that rust clearing run and offers the main threat to favourite Able Jack.
