Newspaper tipsA busy days racing to pick through for tipsters, but it’s Cheltenham that has taken the eye mostly, with four selections today from the Gloucestershire venue including two in the BetVictor Gold Cup Chase, plus a single pick from Wetherby.

Check out the runners below:

1: Count Meribel 2:25pm Cheltenham (5 Votes)

Winner of two successive races a year ago, including here in a Novices Chase. Followed on with a fourth, seventh, before a strong second in a chase at Carlisle a fortnight ago, losing to Lostintranslation. Decent performer on soft and heavy ground, so likely to enjoy today’s conditions and has every chance of grabbing the win.

2: Big River 1:50pm Cheltenham (4 Votes)

Lightly raced since winning at Kelso back in February of 2018 and has equipped themselves well since, finishing fourth in the Ultima here in March and fifth in the Scottish Grand National in April. Makes first appearance since wind surgery, so improvement expected.

3: Thyme Hill 12:05pm Cheltenham (3 Votes)

Two wins and two places in four career starts and comes into this race in strong form. Finished third in the Champion Bumper here back in March and returned with victory at Chepstow, winning by a couple of lengths. Has a minor weight penalty but the favourite should still have plenty in the tank to fight for the win and continue that superb form.

(Racing Post, West Country. Sheffield Star, Fortunatus. Cambridge Evening News, Luke Tucker)

4: Happy Diva 2:25pm Cheltenham (3 Votes)

Fancied outsider, who was brought down in this race a year ago when travelling well. Has a win and four places to her name in six starts since, including a second at Wetherby last time out. Enjoys slow conditions and could be a decent each-way bet here.

(The i, Jon Freeman. The Irish Field, Rory Delargy. Weekender, Paul Kealy)

5: Aristo Du Plessis 3:20pm Wetherby (2 Votes)

Three time win Course and distance winner, with the most recent back in December. Finished fourth on seasonal debut and first time since wind op, with high hopes of a return to more expected form and enjoys the soft ground.
