1: SUNRAY MAJOR (3:30pm Haydock) (4 votes)

Three victories came in the opening four starts, including the last of those at Ascot (7f, good to soft), back in October, in a Class 3 contest. Has struggled at higher levels in three runs since, but did pick up a respectable sixth of nine in thr Lockinge Stakes at Newbury (1m, good), a fortnight ago, some 7 lengths behind Baaeed. Returns to 7f this afternoon and looks to still have more to come. Strong claims, if on form.

2: DRAGON SYMBOL (1:45pm Haydock) (3 votes)

Winner of opening four runs, before a run of place finishes, including the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot (6f, heavy), the July Cup at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) and the Nunthorpe Stakes at York (5f, good to firm). Has since switched to Roger Varian’s yard, but struggled on return to action, when seventh of nine in the Clipper Logistics Stakes at York, seventeen days ago. Likely to have needed that run for fitness and a big improvement is expected of this favourite.

3: OH THIS IS US (3:45pm Chester) (3 votes)

Sixteen wins in over eighty starts for this 9-yo, who showed he still has what it takes, when grabbing a third of ten at Haydock (7f, good to firm) in his penultimate start, the Great Shevington Handicap. Needs to bounce back from a poor performance last time out, when last of seven at Newbury, but tends to ruyn well at Chester, having won three times previously. Useful each-way claims.

4: KEY LOOK (3:39pm Catterick) (2 votes)

Winner of this race last year, when beating Feel The Thunder by half a length. Has continued to improve and has claimed two wins and two seconds since, including victory at Newcastle (7f, a/w) back in October. Now 11lbs higher than when winning this contest previously, but has significantly improved to have a chance of reclaiming the spoils. Major claims in a very competitive contest.

5: DUKE OF VERONA (8:15pm Sailsibury) (2 vote)

This William Jarvis runner, picked up a second career win at the end of last season, when taking the spoils at Wolverhampton (1m 4f, a/w) back in November, when beating Desert Emperor by 0.75 lengths. After taking a 168 day break, he returned to action, with a decent eighth of sixteen at Ascot (1m 4f, good), having not found much room during that contest. He is likely to improve with that run under his belt and goes in as joint favourite with some bookmakers.
