The opening race of the day’s Jackpot is 2m 7f Handicap Hurdle, with Norse Legend the opening pick from our GG experts. Winner over course and distance a year ago and returns to hurdles after some disappointing runs over chases, which included being pulled up at Plumpton last time out.
The next race is an eleven runner Novice Hurdle over 2m 5f, with The Composeur the GG choice this time around. Having impressed in point events last season, with a second and first, trainer Jonjo O’Neill is hoping for big things from this prospect. Has the ability to shine, but must prove themselves on hurdle debut.
The midway point of the Jackpot features the first of two successive 3m races, as thirteen runners take on this Class 4 Handicap Chase. Tractor Fred) is the next GG selection and looks to be the main threat to the favourite. Looked good at Plumpton, when third in a Hurdle race and continued that trend with an impressive third on Chase debut at Southwell over similar conditions to today. Has every chance on current form.
Race four is once again over 3m, with this Novices Handicap Chase featuring eleven runners. Notachance is the GG pick for this one. A win and four places in six career starts offer plenty of encouragement, with a seasonal return last month, resulting in a second at Southwell. Faces a tougher test, but has a good chance, oif can recreate recent form/
The penultimate race is a 2m 3f Beginners Chase, hosting just six runners, with Coolanly the next GG selection. Winner of a Grade 2 Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham a year ago and finished fifth in the Martin Pipe Hurdle in March. Disappointing run last time out on season return but arguably needed the run and makes switch to Chasing today and looks to be one of three in the mix for victory.
The final leg of this Jackpot is a 2m Handicap Hurdle with nine runners. Haldon Hill is the last GG choice here. Won a bumper over course and distance back in December of 2018 but has not been fortunate in races since, losing by less than a length over course and distance again in January and a third in March too. Returns to action after a wind op and could take advantage of handicapping today.
RPR leader Nordic Combined is the clear favourite for the race and will require some top performances to be beaten arguably, while Smarty Wild and Manvers House like the GG choice can put themselves in the frame.
