Race 1 (1:45pm) HMS PRESIDENT
Two wins in twenty-one starts, with the last of those coming at Windsor back in May of last year. Eve Johnson Houghton’s charge picked up some creditable seconds last year, too, including a Class 2 at Doncaster. He comes into off the back of a ninth of fourteen on return from a 191 day break and is surely going to benefit from that run.
Race 2 (2:20pm) STOWELL
Winner here over a 1m 3f last year, this Team Gosden runner has since given a good account himself in group company, placing third in the Group 2 – Queens Vase (1m 6f, good to firm) and third on his return to action in the Group 3 – John Porter Stakes at Newbury (1m 4f, good) three weeks ago, when 2.25 lengths adrift of Max Vega, after a nine month break. A player in this contest and could pick up some further improvement, with that recent run.
Race 3 (2:55pm) NOBLE STYLE
Kingsman colt, out of Eartha Kitt, who cost 525,000 gns as a yearling. Dam was a winner over 6f, including when a 2-yo and is a haf sister to Arthur Kitt and out of Queen Mary Stakes winner, Ceiling Kitty. Plenty to like about Charlie Appleby’s runner here and a strong debut is expected
Race 4 (3:30pm) STRAWBERRI
Picked up two victories last season, including a Class 4 at Beverely (1m, good to soft), when 2.5 lengths ahead of Majestic Tejaan. Roger Varian’s filly ended last season with a second of eight at Newbury (1m 2f, heavy), a length behind Headwinker and is likely to show dramatic improvement on return to action, assuming she is race sharp.
Race 5 (4:05pm) DARK SHIFT
Winner in four of eight starts and comes in to this contest, off the back of a end of season double, with wins here (7f -1m), including when beating Bonneval by a head. He has a career high mark to contend with, but if he continues the improvement, he is expected to challenge once again.
Race 6 (4:40pm) TREGONY
In dominant form last season, winning five of the last six starts, including a four-timer. Clive Cox’s filly beat Chichester by a length in the last of those wins at Newcastle (1m 2f, a/w), before returning to action twelve days ago to place fourth of eight at Windsor (1m 2f, good to firm). Another that looks to have more in the tank and again is expected to be in the hunt for the spoils.
