The Tote’s excellent Placepot bet offers a chance for punters to win big on multiples, with relatively small stakes. Check out a pair of selections for each race on Day 2 of the Royal Ascot meeting this afternoon
Note Placepot backers, be aware that Legs 1,3, 5 and 6 will be using three places only, instead of the regular four, despite more than sixteen runners.
Race 1 (1.15pm) MAYDANNY
Comes into this race in fine form, having won by 3.75 lengths on his handicap debut at Yarmouth, on third career start. Looks to have a stronger ability than his current rating of 90 suggests. Backed in well overnight and should feature this afternoon.
Alternative Selection: Ouzo
Race 2 (1:50pm) FIRST RECEIVER
Solid performances in maiden and novices last year, before returning to action fifteen days ago and finally winning a maiden at Kempton, storming to a 7 length margin after leading for the majority of the race. Step up in level is a minor concern, but looks open to further improvement.
Alternative Selection: Juan Elcano
Race 3 (2:25pm) BRIGHT MELODY
Made debut in January, when picking up the victory in a Clas 5 novices at Chelsford, then returned to action a fortnight ago, with an impressive third in a Group 3 trial at Kempton, finishing 4 lengths off winner Berlin Tango. More expected and should be in the hunt.
Alternative Selection: Win O’Clock
Race 4 (3:00pm) ADDEYBB
Won the Wolferton Stakes here a year ago on soft ground and followed on with the Group 3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock on heavy. Confirmed his class, when second to Magical over C&D in October. If ground softens further, then he will give Japan a run for his money.
Alternative Selection: Lord North
Race 5 (3:35pm) ALRAJAA
Comes into the race looking for a five timer after a 7f win on turf and three successive mile victories on the all-weather, winning by 2.5 lengths or more each time. Has not run since November, so sharpness may be of minor concern, but if he can return to form, will have every chance at a competitive price.
Alternative Selection: Bell Rock
Race 6 (4:10pm) SUNSHINE CITY
One of two runners for American Trainer, Wesley Ward. Made winning start in a maiden claimer over 4.5f at Gulfstream in April, struggling initially, before bounding to the front as they hit the last 150 yards. The expected strong pace here should suit and with improvement expected from that first run, looks to be in the mix for the spoils.
Alternative Selection: Tactical
