Tote Placepot: Royal Ascot Selections

tote placepot

The Tote’s excellent Placepot bet offers a chance for punters to win big on multiples, with relatively small stakes. Check out a pair of selections for each race in today’s Royal Ascot card this afternoon.

Note Placepot backers, be aware that Race 1 will be using three places only, instead of the regular four, despite 23 runners starting.

Race 1 (1.15pm) DAARIK

Finished last on only turf run, when debuting at Nottingham two years ago. Has been lightly raced with three victories and a second in four starts since, including a win by 0.75 lengths ten days ago at Newcastle. Plenty of backing and is the strong favourite.

Alternative Selection: Cliffs of Capri

Race 2 (1:50pm) CIRCUS MAXIMUS

Bounced back after the Derby disappointment last year, winning the St James’s Palace Stakes and Prix Du Moulin at Longchamp. Last appearance was at Santa Anita, when fourth in the Breeders Cup Mile. Strong claims today.

Alternative Selection: Fox Champion

Race 3 (2:25pm) FRANKLY DARLING

This Frankel filly pulled off a 5 length win at Newcastle a fortnight ago in her second run and the rise to 1m 4f looks an excellent shout. Trainer has won this race in two of last three years. Strong favourite.

Alternative Selection: Miss Yoda

Race 4 (3:00pm) MOGUL

Kicked on from maiden win at Curragh, with a Group 2 win at Leopardstown. Finished fourth on last run in a Group 1 at Newcastle in November, behind 2000 Guineas winner Kameko. This brother to Japan looks to be in the best form of the bunch and has high expectations.

Alternative Selection: Arthur’s Kingdom

Race 5 (3:35pm) BATTAASH

Third attempt at winning this race, having been beaten by Verdana Blue in 2018 and 2019. Won a Group 2 at Goodwood and the Nunthorpe at York in August of last year, before struggling in the Prix De L’Abbaye on testing conditions. Comes in fresh and looks the strongest of the field.

Alternative Selection: Equilateral

Race 6 (4:10pm) NAZEEF

After a debut fourth at Newmarket, this John Gosden trained runner has won four on the bounce, including the listed Snowdrop Fillies Stakes a fortnight ago. Has won on good to soft ground, but untested if conditions worsen. Expected to be in the hunt.

Alternative Selection: Lavender’s Blue
