image-left-align track-bias-diary-v2There was very little in the way of early pace in the 7f handicap won by Bacchus at Newbury on 21 April and those that were ridden patiently were at a huge disadvantage. The winner was described as ‘prominent, led over 2f out’ and several of the hold-up horses have run well since.

Third-placed Winning Ways (‘held up behind’) won at odds of 7-2 at Ascot next time, fifth-home Zamjar (‘mid-division’) was an 11-4 winner at Chester last week and sixth-placed Graphite Storm (‘mid-divsion’) was beaten by a short head when 6-1 for a 16-runner handicap at Ascot.

Tonight, we get the chance to back seventh-placed WARRIOR’S SPIRIT (stall 2 of 11), who kept on well in that Newbury race after being described as ‘held up towards rear’. He beat Dante fancy Crystal Ocean in a Newbury maiden on good to soft ground the time before and should appreciate the recent rain and step up to 1m in the Racing Uk Now Live On YouView 231 Handicap at Newmarket (8.30).
