Cheltenham Festival Odds: Tullyhill slashed for Supreme Novices’ Hurdle after Punchestown romp

Tullyhill was slashed in the betting for the 2024 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle on Sunday, as the well-fancied 6/5 favourite cruised to an emphatic nine-length victory in a Listed contest at Punchestown and duly added more depth to the Willie Mullins team for the Cheltenham Festival opener on Tuesday 12th March.

The Closutton yard already have a strong team heading to the Supreme with the highly touted Ballyburn sitting pretty at the top of the ante-post betting, while Mystical Power is another shot set to be fired by the Mullins gun next month on day one of the Cheltenham Festival.

However, Tullyhill’s dominant victory yesterday left some wondering whether the Mullins team will opt to step Ballyburn up in trip and head to the Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle on day two of Cheltenham.

Tullyhill only holds one entry in the Grade 1 novice hurdles at Cheltenham and that is in the Supreme, so if he is to head to Prestbury Park next month then he will line up in the 2m Grade 1 curtain-raiser and after his facile win yesterday he was slashed in the betting from 16/1 to a current best-priced 7/1 for the race. Sent to the front from the flag fall, Tullyhill cruised around for Paul Townend and after the last flight of hurdles kicked clear to beat No Flies On Him emphatically.

We are just a few weeks away from the Cheltenham Festival getting under way and the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle is beginning to take shape, but will Tullyhill’s eye-catching win at the weekend give Willie Mullins something to think about when decided where the classy Ballyburn will line up next month?
