Last year’s first and second, Angels Dawn and Stumptown, feature among 79 entries for the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup on day three of the Cheltenham Festival. The pair were separated by just a neck in last season’s renewal, with Same Curling’s 10/1 shot narrowly getting the verdict over Gavin Cromwell’s pre-race favourite.
Stumptown has been back to Cheltenham to win since though, and is currently too high in the weights if he wishes to run in the race again this time around despite being given an entry. Stablemate Yeah Man, who could have been an ideal replacement after winning Haydock’s Grand National trial last week, was not among the entries with Cromwell’s intentions clearly lying elsewhere.
The Irish challenge looks deep once again in a race they have won for four of the last five seasons and the two ante-post market leaders Perceval Legallois and Good Time Jonny are both set to line up. The latter won last year’s Pertemps Final over hurdles, but has been sent over fences this season by trainer Tony Martin.
