Greats such as Inglis Drever, Big Buck’s and most recently Flooring Porter have won back-to-back renewals of the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle, but can last year’s superstar winner Teahupoo be added to that sparkling triumvirate of quality three-mile hurdlers?
We take a look at Gordon Elliott’s red-hot favourite for the 2025 renewal and take a look at his form ahead of the contest, whilst looking at the latest odds available about the classy eight-year-old.

Teahupoo Stats
- Age: 8
- Trainer: Gordon Elliott
- Races: 17
- Wins: 11
- Career Form: 1112 / 11196 / 1124 / 1112
- Notable Race Wins: 2022 & 2023 Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, 2024 Stayers’ Hurdle, 2024 Punchestown Champion Stayers’ Hurdle
Sent off a well-backed 5/4 favourite for last season’s Stayers’ Hurdle, Teahupoo firmly cemented his place as the premier staying hurdler with a dominant three-and-three-quarter length victory. Under a confident Jack Kennedy ride, the multiple Grade 1 winner pulled well clear of dual winner Flooring Porter to scoot clear of the rest of the field.
Having shown his ability over two-and-a-half miles when winning two renewals of the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, Teahupoo was well fancied to win the 2023 Stayers’ Hurdle, but he was downed in the mud by the Cheltenham Festival specialist Sire Du Berlais. However, he finally got his name in lights last season for Gordon Elliott and if he can replicate that display then he will be extremely hard to beat.
Form This Season
Gordon Elliott has chosen to adopt the same path to Cheltenham as he did last year, so Teahupoo has only been on the track once and that came in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle back in December at Fairyhouse. Looking to land the hat-trick in that contest, he was no match for last season’s Mares’ Hurdle heroine and possible Champion Hurdle hope Lossiemouth.
Tapped for toe, unsurprisingly, by an on song Willie Mullins-trained mare, Teahupoo was beaten three-and-three-quarter lengths, but back over three miles for the Stayers’ Hurdle will certainly see him able to not only show his speed, but also his stamina.
With over 100 days off the track before he lines up, the Cullentra House inmate has limited opposition again with the staying hurdling division remaining pretty weak, so he is certainly entitled to be one of the most feared favourites by the bookmakers and it’s certainly a race he’s more than capable of winning again.
Current Odds
Teahupoo is Evens with Paddy Power for the 2025 Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle.
