Reigning Stayers’ Hurdle champion Teahupoo is one of 15 horses declared for the 2025 renewal, which takes place at the Cheltenham Festival at 4pm on Thursday 13th March. Gordon Elliott’s star stayer was a fine winner of the 3m Grade 1 last year and he will look to emulate the likes of Big Buck’s and Flooring Porter by winning the race two years in a row. We take a look at the possible Stayers’ Hurdle runners here.

Having stormed to victory in this contest last March, Teahupoo then went and dominated the Grade 1 three-mile event at the Punchestown Festival to cement his place as the premier staying hurdler in the UK & Ireland. Only seen once this season in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, the Cullentra House inmate was no match for Lossiemouth in that Fairyhouse Grade 1 contest, but now returning to a longer trip he’s likely to be very hard to beat and he’s a clear market leader in the Stayers’ Hurdle betting.
Third in the race 12 months ago, Home By The Lee is back for another crack at the Championship contest and the ten-year-old has been in terrific form this season having won the Lismullen Hurdle at Navan and the Grade 1 Savills Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas.
Road to the Stayers’ Hurdle – Teahupoo Profile – Can The Favourite Be Beaten?

We take a look at Gordon Elliott’s red-hot favourite for the 2025 renewal and take a…
Mon 24 Feb 2025Nicky Henderson’s Lucky Place will fly the flag for the home team and the six-year-old has been on a rapidly upward curve this season, as having won the Ascot Hurdle the Seven Barrows raider then stormed to victory in the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham and is bidding for another win at Prestbury Park on Thursday.

The Wallpark is another with top notch Cheltenham form and was victorious in a Pertemps qualifier at the track earlier in the season, but having been purchased by JP McManus after that impressive win he’s likely to veer away from the handicap sphere and tackle this Grade 1 contest that is pretty devoid of top notch stayers.
Gowel Road has some brilliant form at Cheltenham and has been a real battle-hardened campaigner for the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard this season, while the likes of last season’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle runner-up Mystical Power, dual Coral Cup champion Langer Dan and Nemean Lion also hold entries and add depth to the race.
