THUNDER AND ROSES 66/1

Fallen the last twice which is of obvious concern, as this isn’t really the race to build confidence in that department. Or is it? Has ability.

BLAKLION 12/1

Carries top weight after the defection of Minella Rocco. 4th last year, this will be much tougher. Needs a clear career best.

ANIBALE FLY 12/1

3rd in the Gold Cup, due to go up 9lb after this. Clear ratings and Class chance if he gets around.

THE LAST SAMURI 20/1

2nd in 2016, couldn’t land a blow last year. Will love the ground and capable of a big run.

VALSEUR LIDO 100/1

High class on his day, but those days may be behind him on recent evidence.

TOTAL RECALL 12/1

Hennessy winner. Unexposed, going well in Gold Cup when falling. He could be the one for top yard.

ALPHA DES OBEAUX 40/1

Talented but a patchy record and a tricky customer to put faith in on recent form.

PERFECT CANDIDATE 66/1

Headgear left off here. Pulled up in race last year. He’ll struggle.

SHANTOU FLYER 28/1

Consistent chaser, unlucky not to score at Cheltenham, conditions fine and he could run a big race.

TENOR NIVERNAIS 100/1

Sound stayer in his grade and yard in form, but outsider of the field with sound reason.

CARLINGFORD LOUGH 50/1

Two time Irish Gold Cup winner. Class at his best but hasn’t been showing the sparkle of old lately. Up against it.

DELUSIONSOFGRANDEUR 80/1

Consistent chaser with a reasonably good profile for this race, but probably hasn’t quite got the quality to trouble judge.

TIGER ROLL 14/1

Fantastically talented and adaptable racehorse. Cheltenham winner again last time out. Big ask here, but you couldn’t put it past him. Player.

REGAL ENCORE 33/1

Quirky but talented. Comes here on the back of a win and finished 8th last year. Some E/w hopes.

VIEUX LION ROUGE 33/1

Will love the ground and is a good staying handicapper on his day. Ticks plenty of boxes.

CHASE THE SPUD 401

Pulled up the last twice is a major concern. Fair sort and loves the mud, but would be a surprise winner.

WARRIORS TALE 50/1

Unexposed for marathon trips and comes here in good form. There are worse outsiders in this field.

SEEYOUATMIDNIGHT 14/1

Interrupted prep for this, but is very well weighted on the pick of his form. Jumping is sound, should like the track and rates a real dark horse for the North.

GAS LINE BOY 25/1

5th last year. Can make jumping errors but has to be respected as a solid and consistent steeplechaser.

THE DUTCHMAN 22/1

Progressive over staying trips this year. Pulled up last time but very good at Haydock before that and he’s not out of this if he takes to the course; which is the concern.

PLEASANT COMPANY 33/1

Faded badly in this race last year. Conditions to suit this time but he has a lot on his plate for sure.

UCELLO CONTI 20/1

Often seen as the ideal type for this and has a legion of supporters, but has he had enough chances now? Gordon Elliott is on fire, so has to be respected.

SAINT ARE 66/1

Ground is a worry but loves this place and has been in frame twice in this before. Can run with credit, but will do well to get into top 5-6.

WALK IN THE MILL

Gets in as the last reserve, really up against it but deserving of his place.

RAZ DE MAREE 25/1

Tremendous winner of the Welsh National. Up 5lb, unseated here in 2017. Not without place claims and could creep into it under Robbie Power.

I JUST KNOW 20/1

Likes to race up with the pace and is a sound stayer. Subject to plenty of market support and is one for the shortlist.

VIRGILIO 80/1

Unexposed in marathon races but pulled up last time and needs a miracle to figure. Has had a wind op.

BAIE DES ILES 18/1

Huge market mover for Husband & Wife trainer/jockey pairing. Strong staying mare, will love the ground, but stats suggest she can’t win.

MAGGIO 100/1

Winner at this meeting a couple of years ago and rarely runs a bad race, but is a big outsider here.

PENDRA 100/1

Wind op and a tongue tie for the first time and talented on his day, but is a very risky betting proposition in any race, let alone this one.

BUYWISE 66/1

Could be a dark horse here. Word is Leighton Aspell loves this horse as a National type and if he gets into a rhythm, he could pounce late to grab a place.

CHILDRENS LIST 100/1

Top connections, but doesn’t have the profile of a National winner.

LORD WINDERMERE 66/1

Former Gold Cup winner. Could warm to this and creep into it late, but ultimately is an outsider with good reason.

CAPTAIN REDBEARD 20/1

Midland’s National winner. Subject to healthy each way support in recent days and is very consistent with conditions to suit.

HOUBLON DES OBEAUX 40/1

Hardy staying handicapper, yard is flying and he’ll love the ground. Live outsider.

BLESS THE WINGS 66/1

Popular veteran, but he’s surely too old at 13 to win a Grand National.

MILANSBAR 33/1

Another interesting horse at big looking odds. He’ll love the ground, will stay and has good place credentials.

FINAL NUDGE 50/1

3rd in the Welsh National and usually a safe jumper. Has a bit of quality, stays well and is another who will enjoy testing surface.

DOUBLE ROSS 100/1

Grand servant over the years but doesn’t have the stamina for this.

ROAD TO RICHES 66/1

Top class in his hayday, which looks well behind him now.

Fallen the last twice, which doesn’t bode well for his backers.

WALK IN THE MILL

Gets in as the last reserve, really up against it but deserving of his place.
