Royal Ascot Preview-v2Aidan O'Brien has won two of the past three renewals of the Chesham Stakes which kicks off the final day at Royal Ascot. His LOPE Y FERNANDEZ is a very warm order to improve that record - but is he short enough at the prices?

Lope Y Fernandez is 1/1 at Totesport, having recorded an RPR of 90 and a Topspeed rating of 60 when easily scoring on debut over 7f at the Curragh. Clearly plenty is expected from the colt, but PINATUBO’s RPR 96 and Topspeed of 93 in the Woodcote last time makes him look arguably the better bet at 4/1 with Totesport. Charlie Appleby’s son of Shamardal is taken to land the 2.30pm opener.

The 3.05pm Jersey Stakes sees 18 quality 3yo colts and geldings head to post for a seriously interesting and open renewal of the 7f, Group 3 race. In order to win this race, historically, you need to produce a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of between 116-121. The horse that has come closest to that level of form thus far is the Andrew Balding trained Dark Angel colt, HAPPY POWER. This handsome grey arrives here on the back of an excellent Listed success (RPR 113) over a mile at York last time out, he’ll see out the trip very well, is going the right way and can give Silvestre De Sousa a welcome Royal winner. 11/2 with Totesport is attractive.

At 3.40pm we have a cracking renewal of the Hardwicke Stakes to look forward to, with 2018 Derby winner Masar returning to action, along with Coronation Cup winner Defoe and Southern France - who sidestepped the Gold Cup for this - taking his chance for Aidan O’Brien. This could be a coming out party for MIRAGE DANCER though, who looked really good when landing a Listed 12f contest at Goodwood last time out. This is much tougher, but Sir Michael Stoute’s 5yo may just be on the cusp of producing is best career form to date. 5/1 with Totesport is a fair price.

A max field of 28 head to post for the Wokingham at 5pm, where Kevin Ryan’s HEY JONESY catches the eye at 16/1 with Totesport currently. This horse dips into handicap company and has stacks of excellent form in higher grades. In the lucky last, Willie Mullins can home with a winner in the form of MAX DYNAMITE, trading at 2/1 with Totesport for this extended 2m5f trip. The Rich Ricci owned 9yo is the classiest of these on his day and looks to have an excellent opportunity to land another success.
