Salvator Mundi and Romeo Coolio feature among the 64 entries received for the 2025 Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, which kicks off the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday 11th March. The traditional curtain-raiser at Prestbury Park, this year’s Supreme looks a wide open contest at the opening entry stage and we take a look at the horses that could take their chance in the 2m Grade 1 contest.

Willie Mullins is sure to unleash a strong battalion at this year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, as the master of Closutton looks to claim a record-extending eighth win in the race, and his team are likely to be spearheaded by current ante-post favourite Salvator Mundi. Down the field in the Triumph Hurdle last season, the five-year-old was last seen winning the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown, which has often been one of the leading Irish trials for this race.
Gordon Elliott’s Romeo Coolio was runner-up to Jasmin De Vaux in the Champion Bumper last season and has since blossomed since switching to hurdles and he has put in some decent displays this term. A facile winner at Down Royal, he was then beaten by Tounsivator in the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse. However, he bounced back to form with an impressive nine-length win in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas and that Grade 1 win highlighted his class.
Nicky Henderson’s Lulamba produced a mightily impressive performance at Ascot at the weekend and propelled to the head of the Triumph Hurdle betting, but the Seven Barrows inmate has been handed an entry here. Dan Skelton’s The New Lion is current ante-post favourite for the Turners Novices’ Hurdle, which is run over 2m 5f later in the week, but the Skelton team have also opted to enter him for the Supreme and now have the possibility of switching their star novice to the Tuesday of Cheltenham.

Kopek Des Bordes could be another primary shot fired by the Mullins gun and the five-year-old was an impressive winner of a maiden hurdle back in December and is an exciting jumping prospect.
Henry De Bromhead’s Workahead beat William Munny when the pair clashed on Boxing Day at Leopardstown and they are another eye-catching duo amongst the bumper list of entries, while the likes of Kaid D’Authie, Salt Bay and James’s Gate add more depth to what should be a wide open first race of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.
